Infusion Oncology RN: Caring, Competent & Collaborative

Job Summary The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician functions under the direction of the Manager Infusion Therapy or other designated leader. The clinician demonstrates knowledge, competency, and clinical expertise in oncology infusion therapy, inpatient and outpatient, including hazardous drug therapies for treating malignant and non‑malignant conditions. The RN administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastic agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies. Responsibilities include providing safe patient care with cultural and age‑appropriate awareness, addressing patient and family needs, serving as a clinical resource to nursing staff, operational leadership, and medical staff, and upholding nursing practice standards as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association. The clinician participates in staff meetings, in‑services, special projects, continued education, and may precept newly hired RN colleagues. Local travel is required; float staff will work across Cobb Hospital sites within 35 miles. Responsibilities Exemplary Practice and Outcomes Performs the nursing process using evidence‑based practice and analytical/critical thinking; individualizes care and coordinates care through effective partnerships. Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (age, gender, disease). Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate teaching methods; focuses on patient goals. Practices current clinical standards, including chemotherapy and targeted therapies. Meets annual chemotherapy competence requirements. Teamwork and Collaboration Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation. Demonstrates teamwork and fiscal responsibility to support recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members. Participates in performance improvement, research utilization, and shared governance. Professional Development and Initiative Completes initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education. Serves as preceptor/mentor for other professional nurses, staff, and students to build a qualified workforce. Cultivates oncology nursing knowledge, earning or maintaining a specialty oncology certification or completing at least 12 continuing education credits annually. Evidence‑Based Practice and Research Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement. Participates in value analysis and adheres to legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. Collects data, poses clinical questions, consults experts, and uses evidence to address practice questions. Resources and Support Plans for patient care across the continuum during direct patient care. Develops protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and other team members to achieve best‑practice outcomes. Supports efficient use of human and material resources and complies with all Wellstar Health System policies and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate's Degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma (preferred), or Bachelor’s in Nursing. Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT (Multi‑state Compact). Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (ARC‑BLS) or BLS‑I (Basic Life Support Instructor). Additional Licenses and Certifications Chemotherapy competency is required through an approved provider (Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or WellStar Oncology Nursing Readiness and Safety (ONRS)). Required Minimum Experience Minimum 2 years of direct patient care in a clinical field. Minimum 2 years of outpatient oncology nursing experience (preferred). Chemotherapy competency (preferred). Required Minimum Skills Ability to read, write, and speak English. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills. Inter‑ and intra‑departmental coordination of patient care activities. Delegation skills required per Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act and Wellstar policy. Ability to multi‑task and function in stressful and emergency situations. Strong detail orientation to patient care activities and nursing skills. Time‑management skills. Computer skills including typing, scanning, mouse usage, and other device functions. Knowledge of and compliance with the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act.
