Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations within a patient service center.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and label them accurately.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in a similar role.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Experience with straight needles and specimen collection.

Work Environment

This is a non-float position located inside a patient service center. The phlebotomist will work Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 12:30 pm, conducting 15-35 draws daily. The role requires working as part of a team, dealing with patients of all ages. Training will be conducted on-site at the same location where the candidate will work. The dress code is professional attire suitable for a clinical setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Babylon, NY.

The pay range for this position is $25.16 - $25.16/hr.
