P12653 Systems Engineer II - (Flight Operations - Flight Planning & Design)

About the Role A candidate with a strong interest in spacecraft flight dynamics, mission planning, and operations will work towards becoming a certified Dream Chaser flight controller, supporting Dream Chaser missions. Responsibilities include mission planning, analysis, and execution from the Mission Control Center in Louisville, CO. Responsibilities Develop flight plans for Dream Chaser missions using custom tools such as FreeFlyer and MATLAB. Perform mission analysis and design spacecraft trajectories to meet mission objectives. Collaborate with hardware and software engineers, flight science analysts, and other flight control disciplines to integrate products such as timelines, procedures, trajectories, and attitudes. Participate in training simulations and complete training requirements toward flight controller certification. Provide real‑time mission support from the MCC in Louisville during flight operations. Support shift work during mission operations. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience). 0–2 years of experience in orbital mechanics, spacecraft attitude dynamics, or a related field. Strong organizational and detail‑oriented skills. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and ability to learn new subjects and disciplines. Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Self‑starter and problem‑solver comfortable in a fast‑paced, changing environment. Ability to work effectively under pressure as part of a team. Pass flight controller certification (and meet physical requirements) as a condition of continued employment. Openness to shift work during mission operations. Preferred Qualifications Experience with MATLAB, STK, or Freeflyer. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools. GUI tool development in any coding language. Technical writing with detailed process documentation. Strong foundation in orbital mechanics and spacecraft attitudes. Experience with Kalman filters or related estimation techniques. Compensation Pay Range: $94,090.00 – $129,394.75. Base compensation determined on a case‑by‑case basis.
