The Quality Control Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting laboratory testing activities within a donor processing and manufacturing facility. This position assists certified laboratory professionals by preparing materials and samples for testing, operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation, and ensuring accurate tracking and disposal of specimens. It is an excellent entry-level opportunity for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent to gain hands-on experience in the medical field and contribute to a highly regulated quality control environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of materials and samples for laboratory testing, including buffer preparation and sample handling.
• Aid certified and professional laboratory staff in performing various quality control tests according to established procedures.
• Receive specimens and supplies from collection centers and ensure accurate processing and recording of all information.
• Handle and track donor samples from initial receipt through final testing, maintaining clear documentation at every step.
• Use front-end automation systems for sample receipt and preparation to support efficient laboratory workflows.
• Store and archive samples in refrigerated and frozen environments, following proper labeling and tracking protocols.
• Use computerized laboratory reports to retrieve and reconcile archived samples for additional or repeat testing.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation within the assigned department in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Utilize the laboratory's computerized inventory management system to locate, track, and determine the testing status of samples.
• Perform proper disposal of tested samples into biohazard containers, adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines.
• Handle positive samples in a controlled and compliant manner, following all relevant safety protocols.
• Monitor inventory levels for laboratory supplies within the assigned department and promptly notify the supervisor of inventory needs.
• Participate in first-day orientation and ongoing training to stay current with laboratory practices, quality control standards, and safety procedures.
• Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment that supports high-quality testing and analysis.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic computer skills to navigate laboratory information systems and inventory management software.
• Ability to accurately receive, process, and record specimen and supply information from collection centers.
• Capability to handle and track donor samples from receipt through final testing with strong attention to detail.
• Competence in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation within the assigned department.
• Ability to follow established procedures for proper disposal of samples into biohazard containers.
• Comfort using computerized inventory management systems to locate, track, and determine testing status of samples.
• Understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
• Willingness and ability to work a consistent overnight schedule on third shift, Monday through Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

• Laboratory experience or background in production line work is preferred.
• Interest in medical technology and laboratory analysis in a donor processing and manufacturing setting.
• Ability to learn and work with front-end automation systems for sample preparation and processing.
• Strong data entry skills and comfort working with computerized reports and tracking tools.

Work Environment

This role is based in a donor processing and manufacturing facility focused on quality control testing. The position follows a third-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with a set shift and no on-call or STAT lab requirements. The work environment is structured and process-driven, with a standard daily operating rhythm that supports consistent, reliable testing. You will work with laboratory instrumentation, front-end automation systems, refrigerated and frozen storage units, and computerized inventory and reporting systems. This is a Contract position based out of Knoxville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.80 - $18.80/hr.
