JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Plans, directs, schedules, performs, and checks all work in connection with construction and maintenance of gas distribution system. Performs company field operations, including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction, and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and direct all gas distribution work for a construction crew
- Install, repair, or replace steel and plastic pipes
- Ensure that each crew member knows safety policies and practices, monitor for compliance, and coach in the field
- Ensure gas lines and other utility lines are located prior to excavation
- Ensure plastic and steel welding performed by crew members meets standards
- Transport required equipment, tools, and supplies to work sites
- Provide First Responder assistance in emergency situations
- Complete paperwork, as required
- Perform other duties, as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Requires a minimum of 6 years of experience in construction, installation, and/or maintenance systems within natural gas distribution/natural gas transmission
Minimum experience required of the position
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred of the position
- Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations and hold others accountable for complying
- Able to provide a valid state Class A commercial driver's license, present and maintain a good driving record, and operate company vehicles in a safe manner and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies
- Able to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher, and a two-ton or larger truck (no restrictions). Also, be able to train others to operate
- Able to utilize and train others on the use of proper tools for any given job
- Able to assist with or train on Plugging and Tapping procedures
- Able to perform gas meter resets and relights
- Able to demonstrate and maintain company plastic welding certification and company Arc welding certification
- Able to use a personal computer, SAP/ Oracle, and Mobile Data/ OFS
- Able to utilize the company’s mapping system
- Able to complete paperwork properly, as required
- Able to demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks
- Able to motivate self, accomplish tasks, and achieve goals with minimal supervision, including self-directed learning
- Able to demonstrate leadership skills and abilities
- Able to respond well to changing priorities
- Able to solve problems with logical solutions
- Able to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communications skills

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
- Must pass company welding certification within 90 days of employment
- Must have CDL/Fusion Certification/Equipment Operator Basic (no restrictions)/Welding Certificate/Tapping & Stopping applicable to area
Physical Requirements
- Able to exert up to 50 lb of force occasionally and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
- Able to use a variety of hand tools and power tools, including picks, shovels, sharp-shooters, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, bolt cutters, pavement saws, jack hammers, air guns, etc.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle and heavy equipment and enter and exit vehicles unassisted.
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time.
- Able to exert routine physical effort daily.

- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
- Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
- Able to respond to EOPs, emergency calls, and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs daily.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aid in restoration efforts.
