Assistant Professor of Education

Job Description:

The Department of Education and Counseling in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Education (F0066) beginning in August 2027. For qualified candidates, an earlier start date of January 2027 may be possible.

We seek an innovative teacher educator and scholar to join our team. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses focused on human growth and development, introduction to the teaching profession, instructional design and assessment, disciplinary literacy, and classroom and behavior management. These courses are offered for our education majors seeking K-12 or secondary education endorsements. The successful candidate will connect with program coordinators across disciplines, coordinate curriculum and collect and analyze assessment data across courses.

The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. In addition to the primary responsibility of undergraduate teaching, faculty are also expected to engage in relevant scholarship and professional activities and to be committed to service at the departmental, college, and university levels.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Requirements:

• An earned doctorate in the education field
• Background in curriculum and instruction
• Current teaching licensure in a secondary or K-12 subject area or eligibility for licensure
• Successful teaching experience at the secondary or K-12 level
• Evidence of scholarship related to their discipline in education: research, publications, and/or presentations at the state or national level
• Experience teaching at the higher education undergraduate level preferred

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, tenure-track, instructional faculty position with responsibilities each fall and spring semester. The anticipated salary range for this position will be $63,000 - $67,000 annually. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required.
