The Division of Anatomic Pathology within our organization, in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, is seeking a Pathologist to join the Head and Neck Pathology Center of Excellence (COE). This role is part of the academic clinical track and requires the candidate to possess specialized training and a keen academic interest in Head and Neck Surgical Pathology.

Key Highlights

• The Head and Neck Pathology COE is comprised of four dedicated pathologists and is recognized for its proficiency in both neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions affecting the head and neck. Annually, this center processes over 3,500 cases and serves as a consultation reference laboratory at local, regional, and national levels, including telepathology services.
• Strong collaborations exist between the Head and Neck Pathology COE and the Surgical and Medical Oncology teams. The University of Pittsburgh's Head and Neck Team has a proven track record of securing Federal and Industry funding, consistently recognized as a SPORE (Specialized Program Of Research Excellence) program, which is one of the highest research designations supported by the NIH.
• Engagement with the multidisciplinary head and neck research team, particularly in relation to programmatic grants, is anticipated.
• The COE offers a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Head and Neck Pathology.
• This position is located at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospitals, which primarily provides diagnostic support to the Hillman Cancer Center.
• Our Department of Pathology boasts a robust infrastructure in Molecular, Digital, and Computational Pathology, with ongoing investments in Digital Pathology and AI applications.
• Candidates will have significant oversight and involvement in translational pathology, utilizing shared resources from our Imaging and Digital Pathology Laboratories, as well as Molecular Anatomic Pathology and FISH laboratories.
• Guaranteed protected time will be allocated for the successful candidate.
• The selected individual will be expected to lead and guide the development of diagnostic and research initiatives, leveraging available resources.
• Collaboration with the Head and Neck COE Director will be essential for service roles and the overall functioning of the Pathology service and operations.
• Participation in various COE-specific meetings at UPMC/Hillman Cancer Center is required.
• The candidate will represent the Department on both national and international platforms.
• Mentorship and teaching responsibilities for Head and Neck Pathology fellows and residents will be part of the role.
• Signing out surgical pathology cases as needed is expected.
• Involvement in research initiatives will also be required.
• Alignment with and contribution to the mission and goals of the Department is essential.

Qualifications:

• A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree is required, along with Board certification in Anatomic Pathology and specialized training in thoracic pathology.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is mandatory.
• A strong record of scholarly activities and publications is essential.
