Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology

Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology, 60% teaching, 30% research and 10% service. We are seeking a broadly trained marine ecologist with a specialty in soft bottom ecology, aquaculture of economically important shellfish, or other applicable field, and with a passion for teaching undergraduate students. Responsibilities Teach three to four undergraduate courses per year, including Shellfish Mariculture, Marine Biology, Ichthyology, Plankton Ecology, Genetics, and other courses supporting the Marine Biology and Integrated Biology programs. Serve as Director of the UMaine Machias Marine Field Station, actively pursuing research grants and facilitating field‑based learning. Incorporate frequent field trips to local marine environments and collaborate with regional non‑profits, research centers, and University departments to enhance curriculum and student experience. Develop internships, research opportunities, and courses that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion partnerships. Contribute to the UMaine research funding enterprise through grant writing and collaborations. Qualifications Ph.D. in Marine Biology or a closely related field awarded by August 2026. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Active peer‑reviewed publishing record.
