Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring an Ohio or compact RN license and prior high-acuity PCU experience.

Job Details

• Medical Oncology unit with progressive care and med-surg beds, including a small number of pediatric patients cared for primarily by permanent staff,
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care,
• Patient diagnoses include solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology,
• Staffing ratios approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU (may vary based on unit needs),
• 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) shifts, with possible rotation between days and nights based on department needs,
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with no guaranteed consistency,
• Weekend shifts are variable,
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity,
• Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps,
• Epic EMR experience required,

Job Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration,
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS,
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience within the last 12 months,
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program,
• Required skills: interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care and management, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, managing cardiac drips, titrating cardiac drips, PCA management, chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, interpretation of ABGs, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management,
• Preferred skills: management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, titration of insulin drips, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management,
• Oncology and teaching hospital experience preferred but not required,
• 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership role; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted,

Additional Information

• Provide high-acuity PCU-level nursing care to oncology patients with heavy focus on infection prevention and fall protocols,
• Pediatric patients are rare on this unit and not required experience for agency RNs,
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice encouraged; previous travel experience is not required,

• Former employees eligible for assignment after 6 months away from the facility,
• Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for travel assignment,
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less,
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines
