Project Manager-Wexner Medical Center in Facilities Design and Construction

Job Title Project Manager – Wexner Medical Center, Facilities Design and Construction Department Administration and Planning | FOD Design and Construction Summary Facilities Design and Construction Project Managers for the Wexner Medical Center are responsible for capital building projects, renovations, mechanical and electrical projects, and other construction tasks as assigned. They facilitate and guide project development, manage, supervise, direct and coordinate new construction and renovation projects through the entire project life cycle, including budget/estimating, scheduling, planning/design, bidding, construction and close‑out phases. Project delivery methods include Design/Bid/Build, Design‑Build and Construction Manager at Risk. Responsibilities Ensure projects run according to schedule, meet financial objectives and university core goals while exercising independent judgment. Coordinate pricing and proposals with contractors. Monitor construction timeline and ensure contractors maintain schedule and budgets. Review and approve monthly contractor billing, ensuring requests align with work completed. Coordinate necessary service interruptions with FOD Operations, hospital utilities, energy partners, etc. Collaboration with epidemiology, hospital safety, compliance, and operations. Review and approve shop drawings, change directives, requests for information, and change orders. Transition projects to university operations and departments at occupancy and close out projects, ensuring all invoices and contractual commitments are processed. Verify receipt and delivery of record drawings and operating manuals to appropriate university departments. Act as university representative to architects, engineers, construction managers, and contractors to accomplish projects within schedule and budget. Prepare and develop cost estimates, schedules and scopes of work for new construction and renovation projects. Review and negotiate fee proposals of consultants and coordinate activities of architects, consultants and contractors. Review design documents and project manuals for compliance with building codes, university design standards and project objectives. Provide communications to Director of Projects, Senior Leadership, Medical Center Leadership and stakeholders during all project phases. Prepare project status reports and schedules for Director of Projects, Administrators and Senior Leadership. Recommend project cost analysis and alternatives to deliver projects on time and on budget. Collaborate with FOD Operations, OCIO, Medical Center Operations and other departments to maintain university-wide collaboration and teamwork. Maintain documentation of all assigned projects in the electronic project file and project management system. Participate in departmental staff, design and construction coordination meetings. Engage in continuing education, internal workshops and training sessions. Adapt to variable hours, potential 24‑hour emergency call requirement, and potential travel outside Columbus Campus. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 2 years of relevant experience required; 2-4 years preferred. Familiarity with state and local building codes. Knowledge of building systems, design and construction techniques. Understanding of negotiating contracts and fee proposals. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Proven organizational and problem‑solving skills. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, planning and database software. Valid driver’s license. Desired Skills Knowledge of applicable codes and regulatory requirements such as OSHA, OBC, NFPA, JCAHO, ADA, HIPAA. Experience with CADD, Revit, BIM or other computer drafting programs. Understanding of the LEED rating system. Experience in medical center/health‑care facility, academic, or infrastructure projects, public sector and/or university experience. Licensed architect or engineer a plus. Additional Information The target hiring range for this job profile is $75,700 to $98,900 annually. Actual salary will vary based on education, experience, internal equity and other factors.
