Stay safe and protect your personal information.*Position is contingent upon successful contract award.Location TBDClearance Level T2 – Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) Primary FunctionThe Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides executive clinical leadership and medical oversight for health services delivered at detainee facilities. Serving as the senior physician and clinical authority, the CMO ensures the delivery of timely, high-quality, and compliant medical, dental, and behavioral health care in accordance with Health Service Corps standards, detention standards (NDS/PBNDS), ACA and NCCHC standards, and applicable federal and state law. The CMO directs the clinical staff, establishes clinical policy, governance and quality programs, and serves as the primary clinical liaison to the government, the Field Medical Coordinator (FMC), and facility leadership.All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized. Actively support and uphold the Company’s stated vision, mission and values.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide executive medical oversight and serve as the senior clinical authority for all health services at the facility.Clinical governance oversight of the clinical staff, including physicians, mid-level providers, dental, pharmacy, and behavioral health, in coordination with the Health Services Administrator (HSA).Establish, review, and approve clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and standing orders consistent with health standards, NDS/PBNDS, ACA, and NCCHC standards.Oversee the medical quality management/continuous quality improvement (CQI) program, peer review, morbidity and mortality review, and clinical performance measurement.Ensure timely intake medical screening, health assessments, chronic-care management, sick call, emergency response, and continuity of care.Provide direct patient care and clinical consultation as needed and supervise the scope of practice and clinical privileging of providers.Review applicants for clinical leadership positions and provide input on credentialing and privileging decisions in coordination with the credentialing function.Provide functional oversight management of facility physicians.Direct behavioral health, suicide-prevention, and medical PREA/SAAPI response programs in coordination with clinical leadership.Oversee pharmacy and therapeutics, formulary compliance, medication management, and infection prevention and control programs.Serve as the primary clinical liaison to the government, the Field Medical Coordinator (FMC), the COR, and facility leadership.Support accreditation readiness and audits (ACA, NCCHC, Joint Commission where applicable) and implement corrective actions.Review and respond to clinical grievances, sentinel events, and significant medical incidents; direct root-cause analysis and corrective action.Ensure compliance with HIPAA, federal and state law, medical staff bylaws, and contract requirements.Additional duties as needed and assigned.Job RequirementsDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.Current, unrestricted state medical license (required); licensure in the state of practice or ability to obtain prior to assignment.Board certification in a primary-care specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine) or relevant specialty by an ABMS/AOA member board.Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain).Current BLS and ACLS certification.Minimum 5 years of clinical practice experience, including at least 2–3 years in a medical leadership/supervisory role; with correctional or detention health experience.Knowledge of healthcare service standards, NDS/PBNDS, ACA, NCCHC, and correctional/detention healthcare standards.Demonstrated experience in clinical quality management, credentialing/privileging, and medical staff leadership.Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with federal privacy standards.Must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal and communication skills.Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and credentials required for access to detention facilities.Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigations.Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations.Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, resided in the U.S. for 3 years in the past 5 years.Must be at least 21 years of age.Must complete all required training.Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.Preferred QualificationsPrior Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, or senior clinical leadership experience in a detention, correctional, or public-health setting.Experience achieving and maintaining ACA and/or NCCHC accreditation.Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) or CCHP-Physician credential.Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant languages) preferred.Has undergone a federal investigation at the level of Tier 2 or higher; has been granted favorable suitability/eligibility and has not had a break in service for more than 24 months.Detention center experience.Physical Requirements and Work ConditionsWork is performed in a secure detention facility health-services environment.Ability to respond to medical emergencies, stand and move throughout the facility, and provide direct patient care.Must complete provided facility, security, and clinical training.May require evening, weekend, or on-call hours.Exposure to emotionally challenging situations.Participate in drills and emergency responses as assigned.Acuity International is an equal opportunity employer.
