Job Title: Journeyman Level Ironworker

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work as a journeyman-level ironworker on large commercial structural steel projects across the country. The first assignment will support an airport expansion in San Antonio, focusing on installing stairs, handrails, and decking as the project nears completion. Following this, you will travel to major projects such as hospitals, stadiums, data centers, and other large-scale facilities. You will perform structural steel erection and welding at height, often while tied off to installed steel beams, and must be comfortable working in elevated and exposed environments while maintaining strict safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Install structural steel components, including stairs, handrails, and decking on large commercial projects.
• Erect structural steel, including connecting and bolting beams, columns, and other steel members according to project specifications.
• Perform stick welding on structural steel using 7018 electrodes in 3G and 4G positions, ensuring strong, clean, and code-compliant welds.
• Read and interpret blueprints and structural drawings to determine layout, connection details, and installation requirements.
• Execute metal decking installation, ensuring proper alignment, fastening, and integration with the structural steel framework.
• Carry out rigging and signaling duties to safely move, position, and secure steel members and other materials using cranes and hoisting equipment.
• Handle material hoisting operations, coordinating with equipment operators and team members to ensure safe lifting and placement.
• Work at significant heights, including walking the steel and performing tasks from already installed beams while using appropriate fall protection.
• Follow all safety protocols and use fall protection equipment correctly when lifts or baskets are not available.
• Collaborate with other trades and team members on fast-paced, large-scale commercial projects to meet schedule and quality expectations.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Adhere to a rotating work schedule that includes long shifts and weekend work as required by project demands.

Essential Skills

• Journeyman-level ironworker experience with at least 4+ years working on commercial structural steel projects.
• Proficiency in structural steel erection, including connecting and bolting large steel members.
• Ability to perform 7018 stick welding on structural steel in 3G and 4G positions with consistent quality.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret structural drawings and connection details.
• Experience with metal decking installation on large commercial projects.
• Hands-on experience with rigging and signaling for cranes and material hoisting operations.
• Capability to safely hoist and move materials in coordination with equipment operators and crew members.
• Comfort working at heights, including walking the steel and performing tasks from installed beams while tied off.
• Strict adherence to safety procedures, especially fall protection and safe work practices in elevated environments.
• Ability to work 10-hour days on a rotating schedule that includes weekdays and Saturdays.

Work Environment

You will work primarily on large commercial construction sites, including airports, stadiums, hospitals, hotels, data centers, and similar high-profile facilities. The role involves extensive field work in active construction environments, with regular exposure to outdoor conditions, varying weather, noise, and heavy equipment operations. You will frequently work at significant heights on structural steel, often walking the steel and performing tasks from already installed beams while using fall protection. The schedule follows a four-week rotation: three weeks of Monday through Saturday and one week of Monday through Friday, with 10-hour workdays. You will use typical ironworking tools and equipment, including welding machines, rigging gear, hoisting equipment, and safety harnesses, within a safety-focused, production-driven setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $44.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
