RN Orthopedic Trauma

Job Summary:

The Level 2 Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Orthopedics and Trauma provides skilled nursing care for patients undergoing orthopedic trauma, spinal surgery, and elective orthopedic procedures. This role involves working in a fast-paced Level 1 trauma facility, delivering patient-centered care with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality outcomes and participates in a dynamic and educational environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to orthopedic trauma and spinal surgery patients.
• Perform patient assessments, telemetry monitoring, and medication administration.
• Coordinate and implement treatment plans in collaboration with healthcare team members.
• Respond to emergencies and provide critical care interventions as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with facility standards.
• Participate in unit-based research, education, and professional development activities.
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned, managing unit operations and staffing.
• Float to other units as required to meet staffing needs.
• Work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as scheduled.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Minimum of two years' experience in orthopedic nursing within a Level 1 trauma facility.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with orthopedic trauma and spinal surgery patient populations.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems such as EPIC.
• Previous charge nurse or leadership experience.

Special Considerations:

• Work includes day, evening, and night rotating shifts.
• On-call, callback, weekend, holiday, and floating assignments required based on unit needs.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity trauma environment.
• Must be able to obtain a TB skin test as part of employment requirements.

Scheduling:

• 36 or 48 hours per week with rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Shift schedules include weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
• Shift assignments are based on unit staffing needs and may require floating.
