Dietary Cook

Dietary Cook 11am-7:30pm

This role prepares and cooks a variety of hot and cold food items for patients, staff, and visitors in a hospital setting. You will follow recipes, ensure food safety standards, and either work in the back-of-house kitchen or in a customer-facing role.

Responsibilities

• Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for different meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, and special or catered events.
• Read, understand, and follow basic recipes and product directions to prepare a wide range of food items consistently and safely.
• Set up, maintain, and break down food preparation and service stations, ensuring all ingredients and tools are ready for each shift.
• Prepare food for and serve customers at an la carte station and/or operate a grill station in a customer-facing environment when assigned.
• Support tray line operations by assembling and organizing meal trays according to dietary requirements and menu selections.
• Perform general kitchen prep work such as chopping, measuring, portioning, and organizing ingredients for food production.
• Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation, including proper storage, labeling, and handling of food items.
• Work collaboratively with chefs and other kitchen staff to coordinate food production and service during busy meal periods.
• Follow established procedures and guidelines to ensure consistent quality, presentation, and portion control of all menu items.
• Attend scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity and adhere to assigned work schedules, including every other weekend.
• Adapt to changing business needs and perform other related duties as assigned, which may vary depending on operational requirements.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of cook experience in a foodservice, retail cook, or similar kitchen environment.
• Demonstrated ability to follow recipes and product directions accurately.
• Experience with food preparation, tray line operations, and general kitchen prep.
• Proficiency in cooking and food production in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to operate and manage an la carte or grill station, including customer-facing service when needed.
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with kitchen and service staff.
• Adaptability and reliability, with a strong commitment to regular attendance and punctuality.
• Commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 12 years of previous related experience is beneficial.
• Experience working as a line cook or in a hospital, healthcare, or institutional foodservice setting.
• Comfort interacting with customers in a retail or cafeteria-style environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in food prep and presentation.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively during peak meal periods.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital environment with a climate-controlled kitchen and foodservice areas. You will work either in the back-of-house kitchen or in a customer-facing setting such as a retail or la carte station. The role involves standing for extended periods, working around hot equipment, and following strict food safety and sanitation standards in a professional healthcare setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond Heights, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
