Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Experience: Mid Level Salary: $85,000 - $115,000 per year Key Responsibilities Lead the design of major components, subsystems, and functional prototypes using CAD (SolidWorks preferred), simulation tools, and other engineering software. Develop or improve products and manufacturing processes to optimize cost, quality, and performance. Generate detailed engineering layouts, sketches, and documentation for design proposals. Evaluate design factors such as manufacturability, material selection, interchangeability, strength-to-weight efficiency, and compliance with specifications. Design and test metallic, composite, and non-metallic structures or materials for engineering applications. Manage new product development projects from concept through production. Prepare and present design-for-manufacturing reviews and collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams. Develop and execute test plans to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, cosmetic, and quality requirements. Mentor and train less-experienced engineers, providing guidance on problem-solving and project execution. Ensure adherence to engineering budgets and optimal use of resources. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with 5+ years of experience or additional experience in lieu of a degree. Experience with firearm design, metal casting, composite, or plastic injection-molded components is highly desirable. Expertise in system, tooling, and fixture design for precision products. Strong understanding of engineering principles, the scientific method, and data-driven design decisions. Proven leadership, mentorship, and team-building capabilities. Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems with multiple variables and constraints. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across manufacturing, quality, and program teams.
