Senior Electrical Engineer

Locations: Knoxville TN, Lenexa KS, Houston TX, Chicago IL, Reston VA, Idaho Falls ID or remote. (Remote does have light travel associated with it. Week one will be onsite in Knoxville, TX for onboarding/badging and potentially traveling once a quarter to Knoxville, TN or Lenexa KS for key milestone events.) Join a multidisciplinary team supporting the design and delivery of advanced nuclear and national security infrastructure projects. Engineers will contribute to the development of power systems supporting next-generation reactor technologies as well as DOE nuclear facilities operating under rigorous NQA-1 quality programs. Responsibilities may include electrical system design, equipment specification development, power system modeling, short circuit and coordination studies, grounding design, cable and raceway engineering, procurement support, and construction turnover activities. Engineers will work across all phases of execution, from conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and startup. This position offers the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges within highly regulated nuclear environments while supporting mission-critical facilities that will operate for decades. What Makes This Opportunity Different Advanced reactor and emerging nuclear technology exposure Application of NRC-regulated and NQA-1 engineering practices Design of safety-related and mission-critical systems Long-term programs with significant engineering backlog Direct collaboration with engineering, construction, operations, and licensing teams Opportunity to influence major design decisions rather than simply execute production work Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Design Oversight Lead the development, review, and coordination of electrical engineering designs for commercial nuclear, DOE, and other highly regulated industrial projects. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to electrical engineers and designers, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, quality standards, budgets, and schedules. Serve as the electrical engineering subject matter expert for complex design challenges and technical decision-making. Review, approve, and provide quality oversight of engineering calculations, specifications, studies, drawings, and design packages. Lead and perform detailed AC and DC power system analyses using ETAP, including: Voltage Drop Studies Load Flow and System Capacity Evaluations Develop engineering recommendations based on study results and ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards. Design Development Develop design criteria, scopes of work, engineering packages, and technical documentation. Lead constructability reviews and design optimization efforts throughout project execution. Design and review electrical power distribution systems, grounding systems, lighting systems, communications systems, security systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. Support engineering change evaluations and manage design modifications throughout project lifecycles. Develop and review technical equipment specifications, bid packages, and procurement documentation. Evaluate supplier proposals and provide technical recommendations for equipment selection. Coordinate vendor interfaces, review vendor drawings and submittals, and manage technical inquiries throughout the procurement process. Project Execution & Client Engagement Coordinate electrical engineering activities with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, structural, civil, I&C, and construction personnel. Act as the primary electrical engineering contact for clients, contractors, and project stakeholders. Support project planning, resource forecasting, proposal development, and technical reviews. Identify project risks, scope changes, and opportunities for cost and schedule optimization. Qualifications Minimum 10-15+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting commercial nuclear, DOE, power generation, or other complex industrial facilities. Demonstrated experience leading electrical design efforts on multidisciplinary engineering projects. Experience serving as a technical lead, discipline lead, or project engineering lead is preferred. Technical Qualifications Strong knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including transformers, generators, switchgear, motor control centers, motors, protective relays, and power system protection schemes. Extensive experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, specifications, and design packages. Proficiency with ETAP or comparable power system analysis software. Familiarity with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Navisworks, or similar platforms. Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and nuclear industry design requirements. DOE and/or Commercial Nuclear experience strongly preferred. Licensure Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred Professional Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-development capabilities. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
