At Coeur, we PROTECT our people, places and planet, DEVELOP quality resources, growth and plans, and DELIVER impactful results through teamwork.
We are a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing precious metals producer with seven wholly-owned operations: the New Afton gold-copper mine in British Columbia, Canada, the Rainy River gold-silver mine in Ontario, Canada, the Las Chispas silver-gold mine in Sonora, Mexico, the Palmarejo gold-silver mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. In addition, the Company wholly-owns the Silvertip polymetallic critical minerals exploration project in British Columbia, Canada.
Coeur’s Rochester mine is an open pit silver-gold operation located in Pershing County, NV. The mine utilizes cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe technologies for metal recovery from crushed ore. CRI employs a robust annual near-mine and greenfields exploration program to support ongoing operational activities and resource / reserve growth.
Coeur is looking for a dynamic and energetic Exploration Manager to be responsible for the design and implementation of exploration programs across Coeur’s district scale landholdings at Rochester. Responsibilities also include the development and mentorship of the exploration team, in addition to oversight of all technical activities inclusive of scout, resource infill and expansion drill campaigns. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Exploration, this site-based role is an excellent opportunity for the candidate to join the Coeur organization and make a significant impact through innovation and discovery within our highly prospective land holdings.
Coeur offers a competitive remuneration and relocation package to the successful applicant.
About the Job:
The Exploration Manager – Nevada is responsible for leading the design, execution, and continuous improvement of exploration programs across Coeur’s district-scale landholdings at Rochester. This site-based role owns the exploration pipeline from target generation and prioritization through drill program design, execution, evaluation, and technical handoff to Resource Modeling and Technical Services. The role is accountable for advancing high-quality near-mine, resource growth, and early-stage opportunities that support mine life extension, operational flexibility, and long-term value creation. The Exploration Manager will provide technical and people leadership for a multidisciplinary exploration team, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Coeur’s standards, strategic objectives, and annual exploration plan. The role requires close partnership with Site Operations, Technical Services, Mine Planning, Metallurgy, Environmental, Finance, Supply Chain, and Corporate Exploration to integrate exploration priorities with site business needs, infrastructure timing, permitting requirements, and long-term planning. This is a highly visible leadership role with the opportunity to build orebody knowledge, improve exploration effectiveness, and create meaningful value through systematic discovery and disciplined execution.
Responsibilities:
- Lead safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible exploration activities in alignment with Coeur standards, MSHA requirements, site procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership for exploration strategy, target generation, program design, geological interpretation, workflows, standards, and continuous improvement.
- Manage the Rochester exploration pipeline from concept through drill testing and resource handoff, including target ranking, stage-gating, drill motivation, prioritization, and advancement decisions.
- Design and execute near-mine, infill, expansion, scout, and Greenfields programs aligned with Life of Mine strategy, infrastructure timing, permitting constraints, and business priorities.
- Advance district- and deposit-scale understanding by integrating geological, geochemical, geophysical, drilling, production, historical, and operational datasets into clear exploration hypotheses.
- Deliver high-quality geological data, interpretations, models, and technical handoffs that support Resource Modeling, Technical Services, mineral resource estimation, and mine planning.
- Maintain data integrity through disciplined collection, database management, QA/QC monitoring, documentation, and adherence to established standards.
- Set clear program objectives, success criteria, risks, opportunities, decision points, and expected outcomes; track progress against approved plans, budgets, milestones, and KPIs.
- Prepare, manage, and reconcile exploration operating and capital budgets, including drilling, assaying, contractors, field programs, permitting support, and technical studies.
- Manage drilling and exploration contractors to ensure safe execution, quality performance, cost control, schedule adherence, invoice accuracy, and compliance with site standards.
- Partner with site and corporate functions to integrate exploration plans with operating needs, long-range planning, annual budgeting, quarterly updates, and value creation priorities.
- Build, coach, and retain a capable exploration team by setting clear expectations, developing technical capability, supporting succession planning, and fostering accountability.
- Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and respectful challenge within the exploration team and across site functions.
- Communicate exploration results, program status, risks, opportunities, and investment rationale clearly to site, corporate, technical, and executive audiences.
- Ensure exploration activities and outputs support Coeur’s internal governance requirements, reporting obligations, and applicable mineral resource disclosure standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Professional registration or certification preferred where applicable.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive exploration experience, including leadership of exploration programs and technical teams in a mine-site or district-scale environment
- Strong working knowledge of mineral exploration methods, orebody controls, drill program design, geological modeling, QA/QC practices, and mineral resource development workflows.
- Proficiency with geological interpretation, data integration, technical reporting, budgeting, contractor management, and cross-functional planning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing technical teams while setting clear expectations, providing timely feedback, and building accountability.
- Strong technical judgment in exploration strategy, target generation, drill program design, geological interpretation, data integration, and model development.
- Ability to think across scales, from district and regional context to deposit-scale controls, mine planning interfaces, and operational execution.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect exploration activity to mine life, resource growth, operational flexibility, risk reduction, and value creation.
- Ability to manage priorities, budgets, schedules, contractors, and technical programs in an active mine-site environment.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across site, technical, corporate, and functional teams.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and tailor messages for field, site, corporate, executive, and external audiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership, environmental stewardship, compliance, and responsible exploration practices.
- High degree of ownership, accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to set clear objectives, measure progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust plans based on new information, changing priorities, and business needs.
- Physical demand is moderate and may include field visits, walking on uneven terrain, core handling, travel to active work areas, and occasional lifting or bending in accordance with site safety requirements.
- Sensory and cognitive demand is considerable due to the need for sustained attention to technical data, safety-critical decisions, multiple priorities, deadlines, and communication with field, site, and corporate stakeholders.
- Work is primarily site-based at Rochester, with a mix of office, core facility, field, and active mine-site environments.
- Travel may be required periodically for corporate meetings, site visits, technical reviews, vendor engagement, training, and exploration-related field activities.
The role works closely with the Rochester General Manager, Site Leadership Team, Technical Services, Resource Modeling, and key site and corporate functions to align the exploration plan with Coeur’s strategy, governance framework, Life of Mine objectives, and annual business planning process.
