Job Overview Position Title: Lead Career Development Specialist – Veterans Employment Services Location: Salvation Army James M Wood Blvd, 832 James M Wood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015, USA Employment Type: Full-Time Rate: $28 USD per hour As the Lead Career Development Specialist, you will work with a team of Career Development Specialists to implement employment services for veterans. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and the capacity to support both clients and the team. Essential Functions Manage an assigned caseload of clients, providing comprehensive career development guidance and support. Lead, train, and mentor a small team of Career Development Specialists to ensure optimal client outcomes and program effectiveness. Engage in job developer duties to help the team achieve placement goals. Train and implement a comprehensive plan outlining activities, goals, and community referrals for each participant. Conduct thorough assessments of job seekers to gather information on their skills, experience, and needs. Maintain a caseload and achieve participant benchmarks as determined by the supervisor. Guide and support Career Development Specialists in identifying resources to help participants achieve livable wages. Draft service plans that complement client plans. Attend meetings with the Program Supervisor, funders, or employers seeking to hire veterans. Provide leadership and support to other Employment Career Specialists while delivering direct services to clients. Participate in training the team under guidance from the Program Supervisor. Ensure career development specialists support the program’s needs and priorities. Plan and organize the timing of development programs and events. Assist the Program Supervisor in capturing data for Salesforce and internal CIS reports. Train to be a secondary user of the VGRS system required by DOL. Submit quarterly VGRS reports to the Department of Labor. Collaborate with another Supervisor to ensure timely and accurate submission of VGRS reports for all grants, providing coverage as needed. Train, mentor, and supervise the team, ensuring effective service delivery and positive outcomes. Create and track new projects within the Veteran Employment Services Department. Build and maintain relationships with community partners, providing referrals, training, and workshops. Assess and monitor workshops for homeless veterans on resume building and interviewing skills. Coordinate training programs and workshops to enhance job seekers’ skills. Build and maintain employer relationships to secure job opportunities for program participants. Arrange interviews and support job seekers in securing employment. Explore additional resources to share with Career Development Specialists that assist homeless veterans. Collaborate with America Job Centers, EDDs, and CoCs for veteran referrals. Assist the Program Supervisor in creating and reviewing program policies, and conduct training on changes. Develop individualized employment plans, conduct assessments, provide career counseling, and build employer relationships. Provide job readiness training, job placement, and job retention support. Create flyers and marketing materials to promote job readiness workshops, hiring events, and program services. Cultivate employer partnerships for recruitment opportunities for program participants. Participate in staff meetings and attend training as assigned, preparing regular activity reports. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull objects such as files and drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax, telephone, and lift up to 25 lbs. Minimum Qualifications Annual driving test and MVR check. Comprehensive criminal background, drug, and motor vehicle checks; adherence to Salvation Army Child Safety and Protect the Mission guidelines. Valid California Class C Driver’s license and ability to travel across multiple counties for participant assistance or program needs. Minimum of 2 years experience in homeless services and 2 years in a leadership position; Associate of Arts strongly preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience working in employment services. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Commitment to the holistic mission of The Salvation Army and Community Integration Services. Ability to represent the Salvation Army to employers and community organizations. Knowledge of vocational development planning. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with a proven ability to streamline tasks and improve efficiency. Strong teamwork skills and commitment to the vision that CIS/VES be a program of excellence.
