Description
Boulder County Community Services Department is seeking to hire a BEST Officer . The Juvenile Supervision Officer works directly with high-risk/need juvenile offenders and their families in the community that would otherwise be detained, monitors individuals through community face-to-face contact, alcohol and drug testing, and electronic home monitoring, reports to courts and partnering agencies regarding juvenile's progress and provides mentorship for clients.

This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm with some weekends and evenings required. This position will work out of 1777 6th St. , Boulder, Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt .

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range : $67,068.00 - $81,834.00 Annually

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

• Phone Screening: Week of June 29th
• First Round Interviews: Week of June 29th
• Language Proficiency Test (if applicable): Week of July 6th
• Reference Check: Week of June 29th

New employees receive an of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Boulder County offers including pension contributions.

Examples of Duties

1. Assess juveniles for their appropriateness for the B.E.S.T. program
2. Develop case plans for each juvenile which address community safety, youth's need and guardian's needs as part of recommendation to the courts
3. Make appropriate referrals for clients/families on caseload for interventions or treatment to different partnering agencies
4. Monitor individuals through community face-to-face contact, alcohol and drug testing, and electronic home monitoring based on case plan
5. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with DA, Public Defender, private attorneys, Social Services, IMPACT, Mental Health, law enforcement, other counties' CYDC personnel, CJS, courts, clerks, judges and magistrates, as well as members of the public
6. Attend trainings through Boulder County, CJS and conferences to keep current on Juvenile Justice trends
7. Report to courts and partnering agencies regarding juvenile's progress
8. Appear in court for clients' court hearings
9. Help client and family understand what is happening in court and what to expect before and after court
10. Attend all staffing for juveniles on caseload including CRTs school re-entry/threat assessments etc.
11. Enter tracking data into ETO and provide tracking information for TRAILS and CYDC tracking purposes
12. Provide community resources and referrals for clients and their families
13. Work as an unofficial mentor to clients by modeling behavior when interacting with them in the community in day-to-day settings
14. Performs related work, as required
15. May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of:

• 6 years of combined education and experience in a related field

Additional related education may count towards required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Applicants must be CPR/First Aid Certified. If not prior to hire, it is required to completed after hire through the county or state contractors.

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Additional compensation will be provided based on the use of bilingual skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequently walks, bends, crouches and sits or stands for extended periods of time
• By position, operates large vehicles daily and/or conducts home visits
• Occasionally required to physically pursue, restrain and control minors housed in the Juvenile Center
• Pushing/pulling meal cart, occasional lifting and carrying
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment
• Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
• Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public
