Electrical Engineer

We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our System Engineering & Planning department at our Gainesville location. This position will develop, recommend, document and communicate short range work plans on cost effective and reliable expansion, improvement, distribution, transmission and substation projects.

Responsibilities include:

• Evaluating equipment by establishing operating conditions, devising performance tests, setting up and conducting tests, recording and analyzing results, modifying components and parts, and recommending changes.
• Performing engineering development and design including logic design, circuit design, instrumentation design, firmware development, model formulation, cost projection, computer architecture analysis and design, network structure design and systems engineering.
• Directing activities of Specification Committee to ensure the development and revision of construction specifications and practices.
• Working continually towards self-development to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and participating in professional societies.
• Acting as a resource to all other departments for technical support and issues concerning the electrical system.
• Analyzing electrical system utilizing computer engineering and business databases. Designing alternative plans for addition and/or improvements to the electrical distribution and transmission system.
• Analyzing system protection requirements and limitations by preparing reliability, voltage drop, fault current and coordination studies.
• Monitoring and ensuring work plan jobs adhere to schedules for system improvements.
• Developing construction and material specifications and engineering assembly guidelines for review and approval by company Construction and Material Specifications Committee.
• Developing capital budget recommendations for the Short Range Plan's system improvement and new facilities projects.
• Designing extensions and relocations of residential subdivisions, commercial developments and reviewing work order(s) to ensure adherence to work plan, REA specifications, company policies and guidelines, and determining over current and over voltage protection requirements.
• Monitoring and analyzing the electrical equipment loading, growth increase (or decrease) of present and new loads.
• Developing long and short-term load forecasting studies to anticipate changes in loads and load patterns with particular attention to scheduling the proposed system improvements.
• Developing and maintaining engineering and company procedures manuals for use by engineering personnel.
• Developing load transfer requests as necessary to institute changes to the electrical system and coordinating the activities required to energize new circuits.
• Working with manufacturers to develop new, cost effective material items or alter existing items and resolves issues pertaining to material applications.

Experience you will need:

• Associate-level: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Less than one year of related experience and/or training is required.
• Mid-level: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering a related field is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of related engineering experience and/or training is required.
• Senior-level: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five to seven years of related experience and/or training is required. A professional engineering license is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. Demonstrated knowledge of all company policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and mathematical skills. Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation and Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization. Demonstrated ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction. Demonstrated knowledge of power engineering and planning concepts and industry standards and practices. Demonstrated experience in developing and monitoring capital and operational budgets. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply knowledge of NOVEC's electrical distribution, transmission and substation facilities. Demonstrated ability to review, interpret and analyze maps, plans, drawings, data and field information. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated ability to reason analytically and relate theoretical concepts to practical applications. Demonstrated ability to use prudent problem solving and decision-making techniques.
