Position Summary

The Counter Sales position is responsible for assisting customers in person and over the phone, entering orders in the system, reviewing and pulling orders, and ensuring customers' needs are met in a professional and timely fashion.

Essential Functions

• Customer Service & Sales: Establishes and maintains a positive rapport by connecting with retail and commercial customers through in-person interactions, phone calls, and online orders. Understands customer needs and assists them in selecting required parts in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner. Promptly answers sales calls and completes orders over the phone.
• Parts Identification & Add-On Sales: Accurately specifies and identifies parts needed to meet customer requirements to keep error-related returns low. Recommends and promotes related "add-on" items to ensure customers are exposed to the entire product line. Advises customers on product options, substitutions, or modifications.
• Transaction & Order Processing: Conducts counter sales transactions, including credit and cash payments, and obtains necessary signatures for billing. Accepts returned goods for credit and completes warranty paperwork as appropriate. Pulls and fills orders from stock, setting up items for daily shipment, delivery, or pick-up.
• Inventory & Store Maintenance: Locates out-of-stock parts from other stores or outside suppliers and submits orders when necessary. Keeps counter area and displays clean, stocked, and neat at all times. During lull periods, maintains, organizes, and stocks shelves. Assists with inventory control, product display setup, and maintaining general store sanitation and order.
• Specialized Tasks & Support: Demonstrates ability and willingness to make hydraulic hoses when needed. Drives a company vehicle to assist with customer deliveries as needed. Participates in all available training programs and performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Previous experience in retail or customer service preferred.
• Familiarity with POS systems and basic retail math.
• Proven ability to negotiate with customers and close sales.
• Strong organizational skills and sharp attention to detail.
• Team-oriented mindset with high self-motivation.
• Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, bend, reach, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, use hands and fingers, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and move about facilities easily.
• Vision Capabilities: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus are required.
• Lifting Capability: Required to lift, push, and pull up to a minimum of 60 lbs.
• Equipment & Vehicle Operation: Must operate tools, equipment (including box cutters and electric pallet jacks), and machinery safely at all times. Must be willing and able to drive company vehicles safely for deliveries.
• Mobility: Must be able to climb up and down steps and ladders to reach, pull out, and carry parts from backstock shelving.
• Work Environment & Schedule: Subject to prevailing weather conditions while performing duties. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
