Travel: Up to 50% travel within Texas (primarily between Edinburg and Houston) Reports To: CFO About vcfo has partnered with a growing commercial and residential roofing company with nearly 300 employees and operations in Edinburg and Houston, Texas. As they continue to expand and prepare for future growth, they are seeking an experienced Controller to provide financial leadership, strengthen accounting operations, and help build the infrastructure needed to support a multi-location organization. Position Overview The Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader for the company, overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance activities across multiple entities and locations. This role will lead and develop an accounting team of approximately 8-9 employees while partnering closely with ownership and operational leaders to drive business performance and scalability. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, results-oriented leader with strong accounting expertise, GAAP knowledge, and experience managing growing organizations. This individual will be a self-starter who can operate independently, mentor and develop talent, improve processes, and help position the company for continued expansion and future success. Key Responsibilities Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end close processes. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Develop and improve financial reporting processes and management reporting packages. Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance. Lead, mentor, and develop an accounting team of approximately 8-9 direct reports. Build strong relationships with accounting staff across both Houston and Edinburg locations. Identify opportunities to strengthen organizational capabilities and expand the accounting team as the company grows. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Operational & Strategic Support Partner with ownership and operational leaders to support business decision-making. Develop and implement scalable accounting processes to support future expansion. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Evaluate and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures. Support acquisition, expansion, and growth initiatives as the company adds new locations. Compliance & Audit Management Coordinate annual financial audits and work directly with external auditors. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements. Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices. Support tax preparation and external tax partners as needed. Systems & Process Improvements Accounting software knowledge and integrations is needed. Currently using Foundation as the software. Build scalable processes around payments, billing, and reporting. Drive automation and efficiency using advanced Excel and tools Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Experience leading and developing accounting teams. Experience managing accounting operations for a multi-location organization. Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Preferred Construction, roofing, or related industry experience. Public accounting and/or audit background. Experience supporting multiple legal entities. Experience preparing organizations for growth, expansion, or acquisitions. Aspiration to advance into a CFO-level leadership role.
