Position Overview: 

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS)’s, Division of Child Support Services is seeking to hire a highly qualified and motivated professional to join our Collection and Asset Recovery Unit 2/Driver’s License Suspension in the role of Child Support Specialist Trainee. The candidate will participate in an agency sponsored training program for twelve months receiving training designed to develop knowledge and understanding of the Child Support program and its policies and processes. Additionally, the candidate will receive training learning how to interpret and review child support orders.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills to be successful in evaluating the operations of the CARU Unit, in implementing objectives for improvement, while maintaining working relationships with other governmental professional organizations.

Essential Functions

• Under immediate supervision, participates in an agency-sponsored child support services training program of up
  to twelve months in duration
• Assists staff with calculating financial obligations and support balances related to child support accounts
• Receives training in and assists with interpreting and reviewing support orders, both judicial and administrative, for case review and entry into the system
• Assists with resolving customer service issues through direct customer contact or with other state agencies, legal partners, etc., by phone, written correspondence, and e-mail
• Receives training in and assists with gathering data via face-to-face interviews and other sources and/or reviews
  and prepares petitions, including those from other IV-D agencies/jurisdictions for Custodial Parents (CPs)
• Assists with managing the establishment, modification, and enforcement of court orders
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualification

• Requires education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in psychology, sociology, social
  welfare, business administration, or finance or equivalent educational attainment in a related field; or education and
  experience equivalent to two (2) years of college with a minimum of eight (8) semester hours in finance and four (4) years of
  experience in the Child Support Enforcement program area; or eight (8) years of experience performing paraprofessional
  functions in the Child Support Enforcement program area.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires the ability to pass a national background check prior to employment due to accessing confidential federal tax information
• Requires the ability to utilize and maintain state issued equipment such as a laptop
