Job Description

Abramson Labor Group is seeking a compassionate and articulate Client Support Associate Attorney to join our Workers’ Compensation department in a fully remote capacity. In this client-facing role, the successful candidate will serve as the attorney point of contact for injured workers with active claims, responding to client call requests and providing clear, accurate counsel about their benefits, medical treatment, and what to expect next in the workers’ compensation process. This position is dedicated exclusively to client communication and does not involve drafting, filings, court appearances, or case strategy, making it an excellent fit for attorneys who enjoy working directly with people and value a regular, predictable schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to and complete client call assignments routed through Actionstep, following a first-in, first-out and priority-based protocol.
• Complete all assigned client calls within two (2) business days, documenting a reason for any delay in accordance with department compliance standards.
• Prioritize urgent matters, including stoppages of benefits, denied or delayed medical treatment, and imminent hearing or evaluation dates.
• Counsel clients on the status of temporary disability (TTD/TPD) payments, medical treatment authorizations, and utilization review denials.
• Prepare clients for Qualified Medical Evaluations (QME), Independent Medical Evaluations (IME), depositions, and WCAB hearings.
• Answer client questions about work restrictions, return to work, permanent disability ratings, and the settlement process.
• Explain workers’ compensation concepts and procedures in plain, easy-to-understand language so clients feel informed and supported.
• Address client concerns promptly and help de-escalate sensitive or emotionally charged conversations.
• Accurately document all client interactions, advice provided, and follow-up items in Actionstep.
• Identify and escalate benefit disputes, deadline risks, or case-related concerns to the handling attorney or case manager in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with case managers, paralegals, and handling attorneys to ensure clients receive consistent and accurate information.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and professional responsibility standards.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the California workers’ compensation system, including benefits, the medical-legal process, and WCAB procedures.
• Exceptional verbal communication skills with a warm, professional phone presence.
• Strong active listening skills and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
• Empathetic and patient, with the ability to remain calm and composed in difficult conversations with injured workers.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail when documenting client communications.
• Ability to manage a steady volume of calls while maintaining quality and meeting daily deadlines.
• Comfortable using case management software (Actionstep experience is a plus), phone systems, and standard office technology.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
• Reliable home office setup with high-speed internet and a quiet, private workspace suitable for confidential calls.

Education & Experience

Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Licensure: Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California.

Experience:

• Experience in California workers’ compensation law is strongly preferred; applicant-side experience is a plus.
• Experience in a client-facing legal role, such as client relations, intake, or client counseling, is preferred.
• Prior experience in a high-volume, phone-based environment is highly desirable.
• Newly barred attorneys with a strong interest in workers’ compensation are encouraged to apply.
