This position fosters -excellent interdepartmental relationships and provides quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to all patients. The float position will float among our different retail pharmacy sites. #CA-DS *Must be able to work and travel to ALL Outpatient pharmacies listed in this Job Description. California Licensed Pharmacy Technician Minimum education satisfied through attainment of the required licensure/certification Two (2) years of Outpatient Pharmacy experience, working as a Pharmacy Technician Working knowledge of current third-party insurances, Medicare Part B and California State Medicaid Working knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law Current working knowledge of pharmacy terminology, generic/brand names and drug abbreviations Working knowledge of billing and submitting authorization requests for State funded insurance programs Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations Ability to operate Pharmacy Information System and other computer programs Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an Outpatient Pharmacy or UC Health setting (within the last 2 years) Experience in Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding Experience with Pharmacy EPIC dispensing systems or EPIC EMR Working knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third-party billing systems Working knowledge within a UC Health Outpatient Pharmacy Ability to recognize situations that exceed technician authority and ability and must be referred to a pharmacist for resolution Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem Ability to independently create and implement viable solutions and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times Ability to impart knowledge and develop the skills of students participating in training programs, as well as new hires and staff seeking additional opportunities Working knowledge of and skill to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English Knowledge in Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding Key Responsibilities 75% - Drug Distribution 25% - Maintain Pharmacy/Inventory Control Department Overview UC Davis Health is a nationally recognized leader in the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care, based in the Greater Sacramento area of Northern California. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution. Department Specific Job Scope UCDH Outpatient Pharmacies emphasize patient care in Hospital Discharge, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Ambulatory Care, Employee Health and Specialty Pharmacy. Our pharmacies are responsible for screening prescriptions for appropriateness and making interventions, preparing medications for dispensing, distribution activities, providing immunizations and providing patient consultations. Staff are responsible for appropriate prescription billing to multiple payers including third party insurances, Medicaid, Medicare D and Medicare B plans. Our pharmacies maintain compliance with multiple accrediting bodies and with State and Federal Laws and Regulations.
