Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cardiac care and will be comfortable managing patient ratios of 1:5. This position involves a combination of night shifts and weekend rotations, with scheduling managed through a self-assisted system based on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for cardiac patients, including those with Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Coronary Syndrome, arrhythmias, and patients pre/post cardiac catheterization.
• Manage telemetry monitoring and respond to dysrhythmias promptly and effectively.
• Oversee the administration and management of cardiac and vasoactive drips, ensuring correct protocols are followed.
• Handle procedural sedation and manage patients with chest tubes and tracheostomies.
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams when necessary to address critical patient situations.
• Coordinate with the nursing team and support staff to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac Progressive Care Unit or similar setting.
• Previous charge nurse experience is preferred.
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) are required; NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC and a strong understanding of telemetry monitoring.

Working Environment

The Progressive Care Unit is a 30-private bed department providing 24/7 care. The unit is monitored remotely, allowing for efficient and effective management of patient needs. Support staff, including Nurse Assistants and an RN secretary, are available to assist the nursing team during shifts.

Additional Information

This position involves a commitment to rotating weekends and necessary holidays. The scheduling will occur over a 6-week period, providing flexibility based on individual preferences and department requirements.
