DEPARTMENT: Special Education ASSIGNMENT: Farwell and Clare Preschools & Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and/or Special Education Supervisor WORK DAYS: School-year position following the district calendar; Five (5) days per week; 7.25 hours per day SALARY RANGE: According to the terms of the Master Agreement for AFT STARTING DATE: As soon as possible JOB OBJECTIVE: The Special Education Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech-language pathology services to students with disabilities in the school setting. The Speech-Language Pathologist collaborates with special education teams, general education staff, families, and community partners to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote student communication development, academic success, and social-emotional well-being.

JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist

JOB SUMMARY: The Special Education Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech-language pathology services to students with disabilities in the school setting. This position is dedicated to evaluating, diagnosing, and treating communication disorders that impact educational performance. The Speech-Language Pathologist collaborates with special education teams, general education staff, families, and community partners to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote student communication development, academic success, and social-emotional well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED BY ADMINISTRATION.
- Follows all established policies, practices, and procedures in terms of duties and responsibilities of the position as delegated by the Director of Special Education and/or Special Education Supervisor.
- Participates as a member of the local district pre-referral/MTSS process.
- Conducts comprehensive speech-language evaluations using standardized and criterion-referenced assessments; documents findings in clear, educationally relevant reports; and participates in IEP team meetings to communicate results and recommendations within district assignment.
- Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team, and when appropriate serve as team leader.
- Schedules, chairs and/or participates as team member/case manager actively in IEP meetings; establishes measurable communication goals aligned with educational standards; and documents progress toward IEP objectives with data-driven accountability.
- Provides consultation to teachers and parents on accommodations and modifications supporting students with communication needs; advocates for students' communication rights; and supports inclusive educational practices.
- Maintains a cooperative relationship with professionals and others within the school setting that fosters recognition and respect for every individual.
- Develops, implements, and modifies evidence-based intervention plans tailored to individual student needs; delivers direct and indirect speech-language services in school-based settings (classrooms, therapy rooms, small group, pull-out) taking into consideration the student's total school program.
- Maintains accurate, timely clinical and educational records; ensures compliance with federal (IDEA) and state special education regulations; and participates in required evaluations and progress monitoring.
- Reviews and approves Medicaid reports of other pathologists without CCC certification.
- Maintains all aspects of confidentiality as it pertains to students, families and other protected information.
- Contributes to in-service training programs to general education staff, community organizations, etc., at the request of area supervisor. Effectively manages time and workload to ensure timely completion of responsibilities and high-quality service delivery.
- Maintains a schedule within the assigned service area. Deviations from schedule are subject to prior approval of the supervisor. Maintains accurate records as required by the RESD.
- Stays current with evidence-based practices in school-based speech-language pathology; participates in professional development opportunities; and contributes to the school district's special education mission.
- Performs other assigned duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or delegated supervisor, not in conflict with Board policy, conditions of employment, or as outlined in the negotiated Master Agreement.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an ASHA-accredited program is required.

Language Skills
Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents/guardians, co-workers, staff and Administration.
Must be able to read, comprehend and analyze instructions, correspondence, memos, reports, IEPs and related Special Education rules and regulations. Must be able to compose appropriate correspondence and reporting with clear and concise information utilizing proper spelling and grammar.
Mathematical Skills
Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations in order to make comparisons and/or determinations of evaluations of student(s) to the general population, and to produce charts, graphs, and reports.
Reasoning Ability
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must demonstrate cooperative and effective communication skills, both oral and written, and apply active listening skills with people and situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, see and hear. The employee will frequently use hands and fingers to handle, grasp, feel and hold, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequent fine finger and hand dexterity is required if sign language is used. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The ability to tell where sound is coming from is essential to this job.
Driving and travel may be necessary.
In the performance of this job, the individual may occasionally come in contact with unruly students and/or adults, and/or be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
