Cyber Systems Security Engineer-Level 2

Job Description

The System Security Engineer candidate is responsible for ensuring that cyber security requirements are properly defined, decomposed, allocated, implemented, and assessed to produce a cyber-resilient security design solution for the target platform (Air System or Weapon System). This includes participating in working groups, design reviews, and formal artifact reviews alongside other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the overall platform; and providing security expertise to ensure that cyber security is considered early in the product development lifecycle.


Applicant is expected to conduct a range of cyber risk analysis and security assessment methods; implement patches and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to address cyber vulnerabilities, feature changes, or obsolescence; develop documentation for specific installations and configurations necessary to obtain Authorizations to Operation (ATOs) in support of program schedules; and contribute to and implement Plans of Actions and Milestones (POAMs) to mitigate open cyber risks.


The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with a range of audiences, technical and non-technical, and will function effectively on an engineering team to create a collaborative environment that allows for the establishment of mission goals, itemized planning of tasks, and prioritization of tasks that drives the efficient execution of objectives.

Must be a US citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

Basic Qualifications

Active Secret Clearance

DoD 8140 Level II or higher certificate or such as CompTIA Security+ CE, CySA, CASP, GSEC, CISSP.

B.S. degree in a technical discipline such as Cyber Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Security, or Information Technology - or equivalent applied experience

Ability to travel as required

Desired skills

- DoD Classified or SAP Experience

- Proven hands-on implementation across design, build, hardening, and sustainment phases.


- Proficient with enterprise cybersecurity tools-including Tenable Nessus/ACAS for vulnerability management, Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator (HBSS) for endpoint security, and SIEM platforms for centralized logging, correlation, and audit support.


- Strong knowledge of Windows AD, RHEL-based Linux, and secure configuration management aligned to STIG baselines.


- Provide hands-on technical implementation and enforcement-beyond documentation-covering vulnerability remediation, audit readiness, and rigorous control validation.

- Skilled in vulnerability and compliance analysis, interpreting scan results and driving remediation across system, network, and application layers.

- Proven ability to work with engineering, network, and platform teams to embed security.


- Knowledge of container security practices: image scanning, hardening, and secure CI/CD deployment pipelines.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $82,900 - $146,165. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

Premium Pay Statement
