Psychiatric Technician (2305) - Citywide - H00038 Full-time. Certification Rule: Rule of the List. Job Code and Title: 2305-Psychiatric Technician. Fill Type: Permanent Civil Service. Compensation: USD 92,092 - USD 111,930 yearly. Responsibilities Provides basic general and psychiatric nursing care to mentally ill patients within an interdisciplinary treatment team. Administers medications and treatments, including oral medications, injections, and enemas, and takes vital signs under supervision. Observes patient condition and behavior, reports significant changes to supervisor or physician, and documents care in nursing progress notes. Creates a safe and therapeutic environment, recognizes early signs of escalation, and uses crisis intervention, verbal de‑escalation and alerts other team members. Implements therapeutic activities, documents participation, and assists rehabilitation therapists in occupational and recreational therapies. Motivates patients to develop independence in activities of daily living, including feeding, clothing, toileting, and ensures safe practices. Receives visitors and encourages their interest in patients' wellbeing and treatment plan; escorts patients within facility and to community; orders supplies; keeps records; participates in orientation and in‑service training. Participates in the discharge process. Performs other related duties as required. Nature of the Position May require considerable physical effort in controlling or restraining violent clients, with continuous exposure to conditions that may result in accidents, injuries or uncomfortable situations. Qualifications Valid Psychiatric Technicians license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, current per search.dca.ca.gov. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by the American Heart Association. Special condition: some positions may require bilingual fluency; candidates must pass a bilingual proficiency test and indicate languages on the application.
