Job Title: Utility Worker Job Description

The Utility Worker supports kitchen and facility operations by maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout food production and service areas. This role focuses on cleaning and maintaining equipment, utensils, floors, walls, and storage spaces, transporting and storing supplies, and assisting with basic set-up and break-down tasks as directed. Responsibilities may vary by location based on business needs and client requirements, but consistently center on ensuring a safe, sanitary, and efficient environment for food service.

Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes by hand or operate a dishwashing machine to ensure all dishware and utensils are clean and sanitized.
  • Clean and sanitize worktables, walls, refrigerators, meat blocks, and other food preparation surfaces.
  • Wipe down and polish stainless steel surfaces, doors, and fixtures to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Sweep, mop, clean, and vacuum floors in kitchen, service, and storage areas.
  • Remove trash and garbage to designated areas and maintain cleanliness around waste disposal stations.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas, such as the pantry and dish room, in an organized and safe manner.
  • Clean equipment using appropriate chemicals and methods to meet sanitary standards and food safety requirements.
  • Clean and reassemble kettles, ovens, fryers, grills, and other kitchen equipment as assigned.
  • Inspect equipment for damage or malfunction and report any issues to a supervisor immediately.
  • Polish silver and maintain the appearance of serving utensils and equipment.
  • Wash pots and other large kitchen items as needed.
  • Re-stock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials to ensure work areas remain fully supplied.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as filtering oil, replacing light bulbs, and wiping hood filters, as directed.
  • Attend all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training to stay current on safety and sanitation practices.
  • Comply with HACCP policies and procedures and follow all food safety guidelines.
  • Report all accidents and injuries promptly and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Follow all safety and risk management policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
  • Attend designated training programs, both classroom and virtual, to support ongoing learning and development.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support kitchen and facility operations.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures, including basic concepts of food safety.
  • Experience in general labor or utility work in environments such as foodservice, hospitality, kitchen operations, or janitorial services.
  • Ability to perform dishwashing and cleaning tasks efficiently and consistently.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to support tray line and food service operations.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • Ability to present oneself in a highly professional manner, demonstrating honesty and strong ethics.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced and physically active environment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use a computer as required for training or work-related tasks.
  • Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and safety procedures, including HACCP-related guidelines.
  • Reliability in attending work and arriving on time for scheduled shifts with satisfactory regularity.

  • Comfort working in food production and food preparation environments with moderate noise levels.
  • Experience with kitchen equipment, kitchen staff support, and housekeeping tasks is beneficial.
  • Ability to comply with dress code requirements specific to the worksite.
  • Customer service experience in the food industry or hospitality is an asset.

Work Environment

The role is primarily based in an indoor, controlled, temperate environment within kitchen and foodservice areas, with occasional exposure to heat or cold when supporting outside activities or events. The schedule may vary and can include evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours depending on business needs. The noise level is usually moderate, consistent with active kitchen and service operations. You will work around dishwashing machines, cleaning equipment, and a variety of kitchen appliances while adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. A compliant dress code is required, and you are expected to maintain a neat, professional appearance suitable for a foodservice and hospitality-focused environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Fulton, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
