Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit position requiring VA or compact RN license and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• 28-bed elective surgery and Level III trauma unit specializing in post-operative care
• Cares for orthopedic, spinal, bariatric, and colorectal surgery patients
• Also accepts Level III trauma patients and Medical-Surgical overflow as census permits
• Unit capable of monitoring up to 8 telemetry patients
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 07:30
• Typical patient ratio is 1:7, though budgeted ratio is 1:5 with occasional flex to 1:7
• Every other weekend, floating, and holiday coverage required
• Charting is done in Epic

Requirements

• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum of two years recent relevant Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association required
• Proficiency in Epic charting system required
• Experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Skilled in post-surgical care for orthopedic, bariatric, and colorectal patients
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line management required
• No history of license or background hits permitted
• No history of fit test issues permitted, as facility cannot accommodate a PAPR
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide post-operative nursing care for orthopedic, spinal, bariatric, and colorectal surgery patients on a busy Level III trauma unit
• Perform telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and cardiac drip management
• Manage wound care, ostomy care, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway support as needed
• Respond to rapid response and code team activations
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered for this RN position
• EKG proficiency testing is required prior to start, requiring a minimum score of 80% with no remediation attempts available
• Three hours of billable orientation modules must be completed prior to start
• Holiday coverage is required, with travelers on longer assignments required to work two of the three winter holidays
• Requested time off must be submitted for review and is approved on a per-case basis
• Longer assignment length may be available but is not required
