Hardware Design Engineer

Role Overview As a Hardware Engineer at Cisco's Common Hardware Group, you will develop high-performance board designs for next‑generation networking hardware, spanning high‑density access switches, service‑provider routers, and AI infrastructure. Responsibilities Design and maintain complex, high‑speed multilayer PCBs with high‑speed serial links and advanced power delivery networks. Lead schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, and perform root‑cause analysis of hardware failures (signal integrity, power rail instability, component failure). Develop and execute test plans, document procedures, specifications, and corrective action reports (CAR). Lead design reviews of schematics, BOMs, layout, and routing using internal automation tools. Perform and review failure analysis, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action reports to improve long‑term product reliability. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering with 5+ years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 3+ years of related experience. Experience in schematic capture and PCB layout oversight for high‑complexity systems. Proficiency with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, VNAs, logic analyzers). Experience with design tools such as Concept, Allegro, LTspice, or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Automation skills using Python or Perl. Experience writing hardware functional specifications. Knowledge of control interfaces (PCIe, MDIO, SPI, I2C). Experience designing systems with DDR4/DDR5 DIMMs and storage products. Familiarity with signal integrity and board‑mounted power design techniques. Experience with programmable devices (FPGAs, CPLD) and shipping products.
