Work Hours: 40 hours or 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (options for a 5-day or 4-day work week)

Position Summary

This position is dedicated to delivering both professional and non-professional nursing care services as per physician directives. The role encompasses various Clinical Nurse responsibilities, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care needs of a specific patient group or executing nursing care and clinical support tasks within the designated scope of practice to fulfill the patient’s care plan. A nursing license is required for this professional role, which may also involve overseeing the work of junior professionals or managing processes and programs. The majority of the time will be spent on designing, implementing, or delivering processes, programs, and policies, utilizing specialized knowledge and skills typically gained through advanced education. This is an experienced-level position that applies practical knowledge acquired through education and work experience. The role operates independently under general supervision, addressing challenging but typically not overly complex issues, and may influence others in the job area by clarifying facts, policies, and practices.

Position Overview

This role requires the application of skills and knowledge essential for managing and delivering patient care from admission to discharge. It involves acting as an advocate for patients and their families while fostering a collaborative environment among all healthcare providers. The responsibilities include planning, delivering, and managing patient- and family-centered care through the nursing process, adhering to nursing practice standards grounded in research, evidence-based practices, and best practices. The position emphasizes clinical excellence, supporting an environment that prioritizes patient and family-centered care.

Job Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active Massachusetts RN Licensure.
• At least two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.
• Department-specific certifications relevant to the type of patient care provided.

• Conducts nursing activities that foster a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, aimed at promoting comfort and healing while preventing unnecessary suffering.
• Respects the dignity and privacy of patients and families in all interactions, establishing and maintaining trust within the nurse-patient/family relationship.
• Assesses and identifies expected patient outcomes based on diagnoses, data, and patient concerns.
• Engages patients and families in their care, acknowledging their knowledge and cultural needs to enhance the healthcare experience.
• Creates and implements individualized care plans based on patient and family readiness and learning barriers, providing necessary health education.
• Utilizes evidence-based interventions and treatments tailored to specific diagnoses or issues.
• Documents all aspects of care in accordance with hospital and regulatory policies, including treatments performed and patient responses.
• Executes procedures and treatments using nursing knowledge and judgment, adhering to established guidelines and professional standards.
• Administers medications safely and assesses patient responses, applying knowledge of pharmacology and care standards.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of care strategies based on patient responses and expected outcomes.
• Develops and coordinates comprehensive discharge plans, utilizing community resources for seamless transitions.
• Creates educational plans for patients and families, documenting according to departmental standards.
• Participates in patient safety, quality improvement, and process enhancement activities to support better patient outcomes.
• Provides leadership at the bedside as a delegator, collaborator, facilitator, and communicator.
• Maintains positive working relationships with peers to foster a professional environment.
• Collaborates with nursing colleagues and other disciplines to implement care plans through participation in reporting rounds.
• Delegates responsibilities appropriately, considering the roles and capabilities of others.
• Treats all customers with courtesy and respect, acknowledging cultural differences.
• Engages in lifelong learning to maintain competence and enhance professional practice.
• Incorporates new knowledge to initiate changes in nursing practices.
• May take on charge nurse responsibilities in collaboration with unit leadership.
• Mentors and precepts newly hired staff and nursing students.
• Seeks advanced certification and ongoing educational opportunities.
• Explores available technology and resources to integrate evidence-based practices into daily activities.
• Promotes unit and organizational growth through a shared governance model.
• Actively participates in staff meetings and takes responsibility for reviewing minutes when absent.

Physical Requirements:

• Occasional lifting of 30-35 lbs and turning patients.
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
• Exposure to infectious diseases and potential carcinogenic substances.
• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
• Requires fine manual dexterity for patient handling.
• Requires visual and auditory acuity to monitor patient care.
