VDC Field Technician

This position requires a Sr Manufacturing Engineer capable of working independently and as a team on new and existing programs, specializing in process and tooling development with an emphasis on process capability analysis (Cpk Pre-Assessment) in exhaust manufacturing. The position will be based out of North America (NA) and be the liaison between the corporate Manufacturing Engineering & Technology (MET) Engineering Services group along with the MET core competency teams (CCT) and the regional NA Clean Air (CA) facilities that will be manufacturing the product. This position will be responsible for the analysis of process capability utilizing the Tenneco Cpk Pre-Assessment (Cpk PA) excel tool or a CAD based analysis tool (3DCS) as well as defining the product GD&T structure and carrying that throughout the process.

Function Description:

• Participate in new program launches or continuous improvement activities within NACA
• Review the manufacturing process with the CCT leads and assist in the develop of the process presentation
• Develop the tooling concepts or touch points to ensure the components are not over referenced
• Conduct workshops to evaluate the manufacturing process and tooling concepts in order to effectively predict the process capability based on the print tolerances and / or customer requirements
• Conduct workshops to review simulation and brainstorm part presentation strategy
• Validate process assumptions and review with CCT’s and the manufacturing plant
• Support for development and feasibility reviews regarding:
• Design of product in the Design for Manufacturing Reviews (DMRs)
• Design of equipment, tooling and manufacturing process
• Optimize process and tooling according to capital and tooling investment
• Support equipment and tooling runoff at supplier or NA Tenneco facilities
• Support first startup of production

Required Qualifications:

• 7 years of related manufacturing engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering or equivalent (such as Journeyman status)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of GD&T and how it applies to the manufacturing process
• Experience developing a new process for a new product, including experience with process flow and PFME
• Experience working with equipment and tooling suppliers, creating statement of work, awarding suppliers and following progress through launch
• Knowledge of manufacturing process development, fixture design, tooling / gage design, and equipment design
• Proven planning abilities, including successful execution of such plans
• Excellent oral and writing communication skills
• Proficiency with PC applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and flow charting software
• Knowledge of CAD (Solidworks preferred) and computer based engineering tools a plus
• Ability to adapt to many environments and interact with a diverse group of individuals
• Ability to travel in support of job function (NACA facilities, suppliers etc.). Some International travel required
