Job Title: Substance Abuse Counselor / Drug & Alcohol Counselor
Location: Baltimore City

Position Summary

MASN is seeking a qualified and motivated Substance Abuse Counselor to provide on-site group counseling services within our outpatient behavioral health program. The ideal candidate will facilitate therapeutic substance use treatment groups, support clients in their recovery journey, and collaborate with the clinical team to ensure quality care.

This position requires a professional who is passionate about addiction recovery, skilled in group facilitation, and knowledgeable in evidence-based substance use treatment interventions.

Key Responsibilities

Group Counseling Services:

• Facilitate 3–4 therapeutic substance use groups per week on-site
• Develop and implement structured group curriculum focused on recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and psychoeducation
• Create a safe, supportive, and engaging therapeutic group environment
• Document group attendance, participation, and clinical progress in a timely manner

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Complete clinical documentation in accordance with agency standards
• Collaborate with therapists, psychiatric providers, and other treatment team members
• Monitor client progress and identify barriers to recovery
• Provide referrals and recommendations for additional treatment services when appropriate

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

• Maintain accurate documentation consistent with regulatory requirements
• Ensure services align with Maryland behavioral health standards and agency policies
• Participate in clinical meetings and supervision as required

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one of the following:

• ADT (Alcohol and Drug Trainee) certification
• CSC-AD
• CAC-AD
• LGADC
• LCADC
• Other recognized Maryland substance use counseling credential

Additional Requirements:

• Experience facilitating substance use treatment groups preferred
• Knowledge of addiction recovery principles and relapse prevention strategies
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
