DIRECTOR | Housing Affordability Unit / Executive Bureau

Director – Housing Affordability Unit Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is seeking an experienced, motivated attorney to lead the Housing Affordability Unit, created in 2024 to advance the state’s housing initiatives. The Director will oversee the unit’s projects and devise strategies to broaden, preserve, and protect affordable housing, including enforcement actions, education, and collaboration with state and local partners. Primary Duties Lead or participate in enforcement actions, intervention on behalf of the Commonwealth, or amicus briefings to express the pro-housing position of the Commonwealth. Develop legal guidance and educational programming for a variety of audiences, including municipal officials, advocacy groups, and the general public, to promote compliance with state housing laws. Assist various components of the Office in consideration and handling of housing and land-use matters. Build strong relationships with diverse actors across the private, public, and nonprofit housing sectors to inform and strengthen the Unit’s work. Qualifications Practicing attorney, member of the Massachusetts Bar (or eligible for admission). Minimum of seven (7) years of full-time legal experience. Expertise in land use, development, zoning, or fair housing; litigation and/or policy experience preferred. Experience working with diverse stakeholders across state and municipal government and community and advocacy organizations preferred. Excellent legal, research, and writing skills. Effective oral communication and advocacy skills adaptable for many audiences. Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
