Medical Science Liaison - Central Region

MSL We are excited to announce that currently we are looking for Medical Science Liaison with experience in viral liver disease, hepatology, Infectious Disease/HIV to initiate scientific dialogue within the therapeutic area centers through scientific discussions with clinical physicians, staff and other stakeholders, on behalf of our client. You will provide peer-to-peer educational dialogue in support of the clinical trial teams. In addition, you will ensure compliant and high-quality clinical scientific communication. You will be asked to contribute clinical insight to inform decision making on various aligned teams.Role focus: Pre-launch medical readiness through HDV territory uncovering, ecosystem mapping, scientific relationship building, and actionable insight generation. ECLIPSE support remains an important but secondary responsibility based on the current territory situation.Position summary:The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific role responsible for advancing pre-launch medical readiness for hepatitis delta virus (HDV) across the US Central territory. The MSL will identify and map key centres involved in HDV diagnosis, referral, and treatment; build and advance credible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with healthcare professionals (HCPs), investigators, and key opinion leaders (KOLs); and develop a detailed, evidence-based understanding of patient and referral pathways within the territory.The primary objective of the role is to expand Vir Bio’s medical footprint and support future launch readiness through systematic territory uncovering, compliant scientific engagement, relationship development, and the collection and timely sharing of high-quality, actionable field insights. The role will engage beyond clinical trial sites to identify the clinicians, centres, networks, and local dynamics that shape HDV awareness, screening, diagnosis, referral, and treatment readiness.ECLIPSE clinical trial support will remain within scope, with a focus on maintaining the scientific relationship with Rush University Medical Center, supporting the Principal Investigator and site stakeholders as appropriate, and contributing to participant retention and study execution within compliant MSL boundaries. This will be a secondary objective rather than the primary focus of the role.Territory and Travel:US Central, specifically: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin.The successful candidate may be based anywhere within the territory, provided they live within close proximity to a major airport. Extensive travel throughout the territory is expected to support in-person scientific engagement, relationship development, congress participation, and territory mapping.Key Responsibilities:1. Pre-launch readiness and HDV ecosystem developmentIdentify, map, and engage key stakeholders involved in HDV diagnosis, referral, and treatment within the assigned territory.Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the local healthcare environment, patient pathways, referral networks, and treatment landscape.Build and maintain scientific relationships with healthcare professionals, investigators, and key opinion leaders.Support the development and execution of territory plans aligned with Medical Affairs priorities.Contribute to the expansion of Vir Bio’s medical footprint and future treatment readiness through scientific engagement and stakeholder development.2. Scientific engagement and relationship managementConduct compliant, high-quality scientific exchange with healthcare professionals and other relevant stakeholders.Communicate scientific and medical information in a fair-balanced manner, tailored to stakeholder needs.Establish and maintain trusted scientific relationships with key external experts and investigators.Support scientific education initiatives and respond appropriately to unsolicited medical requests.3. Insight generation and medical intelligenceGather, analyse, and communicate relevant medical and scientific insights from the field.Contribute to the understanding of the HDV landscape, emerging trends, stakeholder needs, and competitive environment.Ensure accurate and timely documentation of scientific engagements and insights in approved systems.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning.4. Clinical trial support (secondary objective)Support clinical trial activities within the territory through compliant engagement with investigators and site personnel.Collaborate with Clinical Operations and other stakeholders to support study execution and participant retention, as appropriate.Maintain scientific relationships with active sites.5. Cross-functional collaboration and scientific leadershipParticipate in congresses, scientific meetings, advisory boards, and other medical activities, as appropriate.Collaborate effectively with Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, and other internal stakeholders.Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing, scientific discussions, and continuous learning initiatives.Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and compliance requirements.Note: This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Priorities and responsibilities may evolve in line with the medical strategy, clinical programme, and stage of product development.Requirements:An advanced clinical, medical, or scientific degree, such as a PharmD, MD, PhD, or relevant master’s degree, is required.Prior MSL experience is required.Demonstrated experience conducting credible, compliant peer-to-peer scientific exchange with HCPs and KOLs.Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively within the territory, including overnight travel.Travel of up to 70% may be required.Preferred Qualifications:Therapeutic area experience in viral hepatitis, hepatology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.Experience with territory planning, KOL mapping, ecosystem mapping, relationship development, and actionable insight generation.Clinical trial experience and experience collaborating with investigators, site teams, and Clinical Operations are preferred.Ability to work autonomously across a broad geography, prioritize strategically, and translate field information into clear actions and recommendations.Knowledge of applicable guidelines and requirements for compliant scientific communication and the US regulatory environment.Proficiency with CRM systems and standard collaboration tools, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Power BI or similar reporting tools.Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, relationship-building, and organizational skills.Preferred candidate profile:A self-directed, field-oriented medical professional who is comfortable building a territory and creating new scientific relationships.Strong scientific curiosity and the ability to uncover meaningful information through thoughtful, compliant questioning and active listening.A strategic and organized approach to stakeholder prioritization, follow-up, documentation, and relationship advancement.Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable operating in an evolving pre-launch environment with changing priorities.#LI-CESIQVIA is a leading global provider of clinical research services, commercial insights and healthcare intelligence to the life sciences and healthcare industries. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time).
