SAFETY COMPLIANCE COORDINATOR
Position Summary The Safety Compliance Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs that ensure compliance with OSHA/PEOSH regulations and promote a proactive injury and illness prevention culture. This role leads hazard identification, risk mitigation, employee safety training, and incident investigation efforts to maintain safe and healthy environments across all district sites. Safe environments directly support instructional continuity, student well-being, and positive educational outcomes. NOTE All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre‑employment drug screen before being hired or transferred. Employees holding safety‑sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license. Great Learning (Instructional Infrastructure) (Develops and maintains safety programs that support safe and effective learning environments) Supports safe instructional environments that enable uninterrupted teaching and learning. Develops and coordinates written safety programs that support compliance with OSHA and PEOSH, enhancing instructional infrastructure through safe learning environments. Conducts safety training for employees to ensure regulatory compliance and promote continuous learning. Reviews and updates Hazard Communication Plans to support informed and safe material usage across instructional settings. Great People (Talent Development) (Builds staff capacity to recognize hazards and prevent injuries through training and support) Builds staff capacity to maintain safe environments that support student success. Conducts workplace injury and accident investigations to identify root causes and prevent recurrence, fostering a culture of safety and growth. Coordinates with Risk Management on Workers Compensation and injury, supporting employee well‑being and development. Provides safety training to empower staff with knowledge and skills for maintaining a safe work environment. Great Systems (Support & Accountability) (Ensures consistent implementation, monitoring, and compliance with safety regulations and practices) Ensures reliable safety systems that protect instructional time. Conducts routine safety inspections and audits of district facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA/PEOSH, fire, and building codes to identify and mitigate hazards affecting students and staff. Leads hazard identification and risk assessment activities, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs). Tracks, analyzes, and reports safety performance metrics, including incidents, near misses, and corrective actions. Maintains required safety documentation, including OSHA logs and compliance records. Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive safety programs aligned with OSHA/PEOSH standards, including Hazard Communication, PPE, and injury prevention programs. Conducts or coordinates inspections of playgrounds and outdoor recreational areas to ensure compliance with safety standards and identification of hazards that could impact student safety. Collaborates with Maintenance, Operations, and other departments to ensure safe work practices, hazard mitigation, and regulatory compliance. Assists with environmental health concerns (e.g., indoor air quality, mold) in coordination with the Safety & Hazardous Materials Manager to ensure safe conditions for staff and students. Promotes a proactive culture of safety and service through hazard awareness, injury prevention, and transparent communication. Key Focus Areas Proactive injury and illness prevention across all district sites. Compliance with OSHA/PEOSH and applicable safety regulations. Safe, reliable, and equitable environments for students and staff. Timely identification and mitigation of workplace and facility hazards. Cross‑functional collaboration to support safe operations. Performance Indicators Reduction in workplace injuries and incidents year‑over‑year. 100% compliance with regulatory, audit, and safety requirements. Timely completion of safety inspections, training, and corrective actions. Documented hazard identification and mitigation efforts. Quarterly monitoring confirms alignment of safety initiatives to literacy, numeracy, and postsecondary goals. Increased staff awareness and engagement in safety programs. Job Specifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in workplace safety, risk management, or a related field. Working knowledge of OSHA/PEOSH regulations and general safety compliance requirements. Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and hazard identification activities. Ability to support the implementation of safety programs and injury prevention initiatives. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and engage diverse employee groups. Ability to analyze safety‑related information and recommend corrective actions. Experience with safety training development and delivery for diverse employee groups. Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and ability to maintain accurate records and reports. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and stakeholders. Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted. Preferred Qualifications Professional certification such as: OSHA 30‑Hour (General Industry) Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Associate Safety Professional (ASP) Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST) Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Experience implementing or supporting OSHA/PEOSH‑compliant safety programs in a school district, public sector, or similar environment. Familiarity with K‑12 safety requirements, including classroom, lab, and facility safety practices impacting students and staff. Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and implementing hazard control measures. Knowledge of injury and illness prevention strategies, including leading indicators, near‑miss reporting, and corrective action tracking. Working knowledge of environmental health topics such as indoor air quality, mold awareness, and coordination with hazardous materials programs. Experience using safety management systems or basic reporting tools to track incidents, inspections, and corrective actions.
