Rehabilitation Therapy Technician I

The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician I assists rehabilitation therapists with rehabilitation treatment and patient care according to hospital, state, professional and federal regulations and guidelines. In addition, the position requires effective communication skills for working with patients, families, and caregivers; requires competency in assisting with delegated rehabilitation treatment and patient care; performs tasks as delegated by and supervised by rehabilitation therapists; and maintains open and ongoing communication with coworkers and supervisors. Responsibilities include supporting daily therapy department processes and operations. Assisting patients with daily personal activities. Supporting tasks such as dressing, grooming, bathing, eating, toileting, and mobility as delegated by rehabilitation therapists. Preparing and transporting patients according to the patient schedule. Assisting therapists with daily care and patient therapy as delegated. Communicating to rehab therapists on outcomes/observations of patient care activities. Reporting on patient performance, condition, and participation during care activities. Enhancing patient safety through responsiveness to patients and caregivers. Providing assistance, care, and comfort under the supervision of rehabilitation therapists. Asking for therapist assistance when patient needs exceed tech's position and skill level. Assessing whether patient's need for information or intervention is beyond the scope of one's own position and skill level. Determining whether guidance and assistance is needed from rehabilitation therapists. Communicating patient concerns and/or change in condition to rehabilitation therapists. Defer physician, case manager, patient, visitor, or caregiver requests to therapists. Relaying request for information on patient condition, diagnosis, prognosis, progress, plan of care, or discharge plan to the appropriate therapist. Suggesting processes for improvement. Maintaining awareness of patient satisfaction and safety data. Knowing how specific department performance impacts the overall hospital financials. Making recommendations to supervisor on departmental equipment needs. Assisting with rehabilitation technology applications and modalities as delegated. Organizing, planning, and managing time effectively to complete assignments. Meeting position requirements, including training, and performing essential functions. Successfully completing all assigned training and annual skills competency as determined by the hospital based on new responsibilities, specialized equipment, high risk/problem-prone/or low volume procedures including but not limited to waived testing as applicable, application of restraints, and emergency response techniques. Completing mandatory training and courses required by completion date. Reporting questionable situations, concerns, complaints or harassment immediately.

Minimum qualifications include BLS (CPR) required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire within this role. High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in hospital environment preferred.
