Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Secondary Online Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in one or more subject areas to students in a virtual environment. Secondary Online Teacher (Grades 6 12) Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Secondary Online Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in one or more subject areas to students in a virtual environment. The teacher fosters academic growth, student engagement, and digital citizenship through an interactive, supportive, and standards-based online learning experience. Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Develops and implements curriculum aligned with Idaho State Standards and district goals for online secondary education.
- Creates and delivers engaging virtual lessons using digital tools, multimedia resources, and learning management systems.
- Promotes a safe and inclusive online learning environment that supports collaboration, individualized learning, and academic success.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, or English language development needs.
- Uses a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor student progress and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Maintains regular, proactive communication with students and families to support academic performance, engagement, and well-being.
- Provides timely feedback and grading, and maintains accurate records in accordance with district procedures and legal requirements.
- Participates in professional development and stays current on instructional best practices, educational technology, and trends in online education.
- Supports student behavior and digital etiquette consistent with school policies and the online learning code of conduct.
- Collaborates with colleagues, support staff, and administrators to ensure student success and contribute to a positive virtual school culture.
- Attends virtual staff meetings, trainings, and other required events.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or district leadership.
- Computer, online learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas, Zoom, etc.)
- Minimal; occasional travel to district buildings or professional development sessions as required.
- Knowledge of online teaching strategies and digital instructional tools.
- Strong understanding of secondary content standards in relevant subject areas.
- Skilled in using data systems to track and improve student outcomes.
- Proficient with educational technology and virtual learning platforms.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with students and families in a virtual setting.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.
- Functions primarily in a remote work environment; must be able to manage screen time and maintain consistent availability during instructional hours.
- Idaho State Certification for secondary education in the appropriate subject area (Grades 6 12).
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Prior successful teaching experience preferred, particularly in online or hybrid learning environments.
