Youth Development Counselor (Thursday – Sunday) Full Time – Wading River, NY, US. Availability: Full‑time positions for Thursday & Friday 2 pm to 11 pm, Saturday & Sunday 12 pm to 11 pm . Responsibilities Supervise the activities of children residing in the cottage and ensure that rules and procedures are followed. Assist in organizing, supervising, and participating in recreational and other group activities, which may involve driving clients, depending on the shift assignment. Instruct children on personal hygiene and supervise and participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the cottage. Prepare and supervise meals and assist in the housekeeping of the residence, depending on the shift assignment. Enter information concerning the activity of residents during the shift into the Cottage Log and prepare incident reports as required. Have some knowledge of methods and techniques for dealing with adolescent behavior, group leadership, and appropriate disciplinary procedures. Qualifications Ability to gain and hold the confidence of children and maintain a sympathetic and understanding attitude toward them. Ability to understand and follow laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the care and safety of children under care. Ability to keep routine records and to make oral and written reports. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Thorough knowledge of appropriate restraint techniques. Valid NYS driver’s license. High School Diploma or GED. Experience in handling groups of children & teens, preferably in a residential setting. Ability to participate in mandated initial TCI training during weekday evenings upon hire. Fluent English reading, writing, speaking, and computer skills necessary to record observations and monitor reports. Compensation Starting at $18.00 /hour. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
