Job Overview
General Summary of Position
The Physical Therapist is responsible for delivering physical therapy services to patients. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting screenings and evaluations, developing treatment plans, implementing treatments, reassessing and revising care plans, re-evaluating patients, planning for discharge, and maintaining documentation across various settings. The Physical Therapist also engages in program planning and protocol development as needed, contributing to the achievement of established objectives.
- Conducts evaluations by reviewing relevant patient history, performing specific assessments, and documenting findings and recommendations. Clearly communicates evaluation results and treatment plans to patients and their families, involving them in the goal-setting process.
- Exhibits expertise in executing treatment protocols based on evaluation outcomes, patient presentations, and the changing healthcare landscape. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals as necessary. Identifies and records any changes in a patient's condition that may require adjustments to the care plan or additional medical/rehabilitation consultations.
- Completes discharge planning and follow-up care efficiently. Ensures timely and accurate documentation and billing for patient care activities, providing a comprehensive overview of the patient's treatment journey, including initial evaluations, daily notes, interim progress reports, and discharge evaluations.
- Manages time effectively to meet productivity standards. Maintains an accurate schedule and is punctual for meetings. Demonstrates a professional commitment to facilitating seamless patient access to care through flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and empathetic behaviors in a patient-centered environment.
- Engages in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement initiatives. Participates in meetings and committees, representing the department and organization in community outreach efforts. Involves in marketing activities related to the hospital and community as appropriate for the role.
- Contributes to the development and attainment of departmental goals and objectives while adhering to governmental and accreditation standards.
- Takes proactive steps in pursuing continuing education for personal and organizational growth. Acts as a clinical instructor for students and assists in the orientation and mentoring of new staff, students, volunteers, and technicians.
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program required, or
- Master's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program required, or
- Doctoral degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program required.
Experience
- No prior work experience is necessary.
Licenses and Certifications
- PT - Physical Therapist licensure in Maryland, the District of Columbia (DC), and/or Virginia as required for your specific location(s).
- CPR - Certification in Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (including BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross within 90 days of hire.
- Additional unit or specialty certifications may be required depending on the department or business unit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates professional competency as a general practitioner in physical therapy, utilizing a variety of evaluation and treatment methods independently.
- Able to thrive in a team-oriented environment; organized, detail-oriented, and possesses strong customer service skills for effective interaction with patients and families from diverse backgrounds. Takes initiative in adhering to all procedures and policies; exhibits effective communication skills and proficiency in using computer systems.
This position offers a salary range of USD $74,214.00 - USD $134,596.00 per year.
