Brush and Roll Painter (Shipyard)

As a Brush and Roll Painter in the shipyard, your chief responsibility is to apply paint and other coatings to ship surfaces, using brush and roll techniques. Working in accordance with safety guidelines and industry standards, you will ensure that vessels are both protected and aesthetically pleasing. Your meticulous approach and attention to detail will play a pivotal role in the final appearance and durability of the ship structures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and priming, to ensure optimal adhesion of the paint.
• Mix paints and other materials to the correct consistency and color, according to specifications or supervisors instructions.
• Apply paint and other coatings to ship interiors and exteriors, using brushes and rollers, ensuring a smooth and even finish.
• Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment to safeguard against potential hazards.
• Perform maintenance on painting equipment and tools, ensuring their longevity and functional capability for future tasks.
• Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure cohesive and successful project completions.
• Inspect and touch up work to guarantee high-quality finishes, identifying and correcting any imperfections or inconsistencies in the applied coatings.

Essential Skills and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a painting role, preferably in an industrial or maritime setting.
• Knowledge of brush and roll painting techniques, including surface preparation and paint mixing.
• Physical stamina to work in varying environmental conditions and to stand for prolonged periods.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a team, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
• Must have one to three years of experience with hand brush and spray painting application, or be SSPC C-12 Certification accredited.

Safety and Environmental Factors: All employees are expected to adhere to the companys safety policies to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions and requires the physical ability to stand for the entire shift, use hands for various tasks, ascend stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Team members must occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
