JOB SUMMARY
The Portfolio Manager I is responsible for assisting the commercial lending team with consistent, timely and accurate support to achieve department goals and adhere to policy and procedure. This position requires an extreme sense of urgency and a faster than average work pace is necessary. They may participate in client calls/meetings and prospecting efforts. This position will work closely with Commercial Lenders and Portfolio Managers to achieve outstanding customer experience, while upholding company standards, and adhering to policies and regulations. Change is an ongoing occurrence of this position and must be approached conservatively and with the support and guidance of management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supports the commercial lending team by actively participating and assisting in all aspects of the loan process.
2. Assists commercial lenders with preparation of prospect review memos, ALCO requests and term sheets/LOIs, and may attend sales meetings/calls and serve as additional contact for commercial bank clients.
3. Builds customer profiles in the bank’s loan origination software and assists in application generation/intake process for loan originations, renewals and other credit actions. This includes initiating workflows for portfolio management practices.
4. Works closely with Commercial Lenders and Portfolio Managers (II, III and IV) to assist in obtaining necessary financial documentation and other documentation needed for the application and loan file.
5. Is actively involved in QA (quality assurance), involving understanding the loan documentation components and reviewing for accuracy, as well as understanding and participating in the loan closing process.
6. Assists Commercial Lenders and Portfolio Managers (II, III and IV) with various functions needed such as clearing collateral exceptions, reporting information, implementing new systems, etc.
7. Identifies additional opportunities to meet client needs and expand relationships with new and existing clients. May assist lenders in their prospecting efforts.
8. Manage client tickler system for timely collection of borrower and guarantor financial information.
9. Support Commercial Lenders and Portfolio Managers (II, III and IV) with timely initiation and management of the loan renewal process.
10. May assist in completing spreads for financial reviews and or credit actions on non-complex relationships within the portfolio assigned.
11. Assists the Commercial Lending Team in maintaining and properly documenting loan files.
12. Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
13. Work efficiently and respectfully with all departments within the organization.
14. Maintain and apply sufficient knowledge of regulatory compliance and complete with passing scores on-line compliance training according to established schedules.

17. Assures compliance with all Bank policies, procedures and processes, and all applicable state and federal banking laws, rules and regulations, and adheres to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and HIPAA responsibilities that are specific to the position.
18. Completes administrative tasks correctly and on time, supports the Bank’s goals and values, and benefits the Bank through outside activities.

EDUCATOIN AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate degree and/or a combination of education and experience in business, accounting, finance or related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field preferred.
• One to three years of lending or equivalent experience is required. Business lending experience is preferred with emphasis on the lending needs of the small business sector. Proficient knowledge of general office practices and personal computer operations including work processing, spreadsheet, and email software programs.  Critical thinking skills are a must.
