Staff Software Engineer

The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for all stages of the software development lifecycle using a variety of technologies and tools to build impactful software solutions. The scope of this job includes building and optimizing comprehensive solutions that prioritize end-user efficiency and experience.Location: This is a remote position. Candidates located within 50 miles of WellSky’s headquarters in Overland Park, KS will join our WHQ community and participate in our in-office collaboration experience.Key Responsibilities:Lead the design and architecture of major systems and services, and ensure software solutions are scalable, reliable, maintainable, and aligned with business needs.Collaborate with solution managers, engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to define and prioritize technical requirements that meet client needs and business objectives.Collaborate with teams to ensure sustained quality and reliability of our software solutions, and act as a go-to expert by identifying and resolving complex, high-priority issues in both development and production environments.Actively contribute to code reviews, provide constructive feedback on design and implementation, and provide technical guidance to other engineers to elevate skills, productivity, and overall effectiveness.Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new technologies, methodologies, and AI capabilities that improve team efficiency, software performance, and development processes.Ensure code meets functional and performance requirements, advocate for high-quality software, and ensure rigorous testing processes, including automated unit tests, integration tests, and other testing frameworks.LeverageAItools and platforms as an integral part of daily responsibilities to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows, and drive data-informed outcomes.Analyze system requirements or specifications, translate them into actionable work units for the team to conceptualize, and develop high quality software using the established coding standards and development best practicesMentor, teach, guide, and improve the productivity of other Software EngineersConduct system analysis and proof of concepts, with limited architect and/or leadership involvement, to determine best design or solutionResearch and recommend software tools/frameworks/products and/or emerging technologies as needed for a solutionLead and/or create architecture and/or design as needed to meet the requirements, integrate disparate systems, or manage changing technologiesEnforce the development of unit tests, automated tests and performance tests as needed to ensure quality, supporting general debugging and isolating areas for improvement. Captures and analyzes performance test metrics and provides operational documentationReview appropriate documentation such as implementation manuals, support manuals/playbooks, performance testing guidelines, etc. as needed to run/support the software.Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience8-12 years related work experienceExperience in designing and developing Web-based applications using Python, Node JS, Graph QL, Restful Web API, NoSQLModern JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or ReactGit experienceExperience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP)Experience utilizing AI tools (preferred Claude)Familiarity with observability and APM tools (e.g., New Relic, OpenTelemetry)Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation Proficient in debugging applications and performance tuningProficiency in infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform)Must have excellent communication and leadership skillsExperience with an Agile Scrum methodologyGood hands on and working knowledge of application development and SDLC life cycle processPreferred Qualifications:    8+ years of programming experience in languages such as Python & Django8+ years of experience in NoSQL8+ years of experience with cloud technologies such as GCP/AWS8+ years of CI/CD experience (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, Elastic Search)Familiarity with observability and APM tools (e.g., New Relic, OpenTelemetry)Experience utilizing AI tools (preferred Claude)Experience in healthcare domainHealthcare industry experienceJob Expectations:Willing to work additional or irregular hours as neededMust work in accordance with applicable security policies and procedures to safeguard company and client informationMust be able to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods of time#LI-TC1#LI-OnsiteWellSky is where independent thinking and collaboration come together to create an authentic culture.
