Buyer (Temporary)

Job Summary A temporary 6‑month procurement specialist role within Teledyne Scientific Company, the central R&D lab of Teledyne Technologies. The position involves purchasing materials, equipment, supplies, and services in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment, using the company’s ERP system and adhering to prescribed purchasing regulations. Responsibilities Negotiate, award, and administer procurement actions for commercial and government‑funded requirements. Handle procurement responsibilities for capital equipment, software license agreements, blanket purchase orders, services, maintenance agreements, repair orders, construction contracts, hazardous chemicals, electronics, and other hardware and software. Provide proposal support as required. Track and report procurement data using the ERP system. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Qualifications & Competencies Familiarity with purchasing concepts and ability to negotiate price and terms. Capability to work in a high‑volume, pressure environment with demanding deadlines. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to make complex business decisions with minimal supervision. Diplomatic and patient interaction with vendors and internal customers. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Adherence to exemplary ethics, business conduct, and safe work practices. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree desired. Minimum of two years’ experience as a buyer. Professional development courses in procurement management desirable. Previous experience in a procurement function desirable. Beneficial experience with Costpoint/Deltek ERP and Solumina quality system. Citizenship Requirements Successful applicants must be U.S. citizens due to facility access restrictions.
