Title: Safety Consultant Location : Detroit Lakes, MN Job Type : Permanent / Direct-Hire Compensation : $70,000 - $75,000 Annually Industry: Human resources and payroll services industry About The Role We are seeking a Safety Consultant to support a dynamic risk management team serving organizations across a variety of industries, including manufacturing, transportation, and professional services. This role operates in a consultative capacity, partnering with multiple client organizations to assess safety risks, strengthen compliance efforts, and build sustainable workplace safety programs. This is not an embedded, day-to-day operational role. Instead, the Safety Consultant works across multiple clients, providing guidance, training, and practical solutions that empower each organization to take ownership of its safety culture. This position requires strong technical expertise, adaptability, and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Job Description The Safety Consultant is responsible for evaluating client operations, identifying risk exposure, and implementing customized safety and loss prevention strategies. This role includes a mix of remote consulting, on-site assessments, policy development, and training delivery. Key Responsibilities Include
- Conduct client risk assessments and evaluate facilities, operations, and safety exposure
- Develop and implement customized safety programs and loss prevention strategies
- Deliver safety training programs (virtual and in-person), including OSHA-related education and forklift training
- Perform post-incident investigations and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence
- Conduct OSHA audits, workers’ compensation audits, and support OSHA 300A reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety training, compliance activities, and program effectiveness
- Monitor and evaluate safety policies, training, and procedures for continuous improvement
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and recommend corrective actions
- Partner with client leadership and employees to promote a proactive safety culture
- Provide guidance to internal leadership regarding elevated or borderline client risk exposure
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities and step in to support client needs as they arise
- Participate in early morning or nontraditional training schedules based on client demand
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 1–3 years of experience in safety, risk management, or workplace training
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard identification, and workplace safety practices
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and translate findings into practical, compliant solutions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to diverse audiences
- Ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to travel to client sites and work in various environments (office, industrial, outdoor)
- Ability to perform physical job functions, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds
- Experience working across multiple industries such as manufacturing, construction, transportation, or corporate environments
- OSHA certification (e.g., OSHA 10) or similar safety credentials
- Experience conducting OSHA audits, workers’ compensation audits, and incident investigations
- Experience developing and delivering safety training programs or materials
- Strong client-facing consulting experience with a relationship-focused approach
- Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and organizational cultures
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and provide solution-oriented, practical recommendations
