Assistant Clinical Manager - Special Care Nursery - Full Time - Midnights General Summary Under the supervision of the Director/Nurse Manager, the Assistant Clinical Manager assumes both a clinical and management role. This position is responsible to plan, organize, and direct the provision of patient care services within the department. The Assistant Clinical Manager assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets, quality improvement programs, staffing levels, goals, objectives, regulatory compliance, and policies within the department. The role also involves assisting in the evaluation and discipline of personnel. Principal Duties and Responsibilities In collaboration with the Director/Nurse Manager, plan and implement management strategies, goals and objectives appropriate to the unit’s operations. Provide unit leadership on the off-shift at least 75% of time worked. Coordinate staffing assignments and delegate work based on acuity, caregiver skill, and competency. Collect data and monitor patient charts for appropriate documentation and follow‑through of orders. Evaluate the delivery of patient care through observation to ensure compliance with hospital policy and regulatory standards. Provide communication to staff in a timely manner. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor. Regularly perform the work of a staff nurse per budgeted expectations and based on unit needs. Assist in supervising the in‑service education program and follow‑up to evaluate effectiveness, determining the need for revision of methods and materials (may work with Nurse Educator/Unit Educator/CNS). Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as other policies and procedures, to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honesty, ethics, and professional behavior. Inform the Director/Nurse Manager of nursing activities, needs, problems, and unusual events. Assist in the review and evaluation of unit personnel. Assume 24‑hour responsibility for administrative management in collaboration with the nurse manager for the designated patient care area. Make recommendations to the Director/Nurse Manager to hire, promote, and discipline nursing service employees. Promote HFHS Quality Initiatives and Service Excellence Initiatives, establishing effective working relationships with other departments. Conduct shift huddles. Maintain frequent communication with the Director/Nurse Manager regarding information pertinent to patient care; discuss patient care plans with employees and families, resolve complaints and problems, discuss patient conditions with physicians, and engage the general public (e.g., vendors, community groups) regarding new equipment and community relations. Conduct routine nursing rounds and audits on personnel, timecards, equipment, materials, supplies, etc. Ensure the environment of care, including infection control and emergency preparedness. Education & Experience Required Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Three years of charge experience. Certifications / Licenses Current RN license in the State of Michigan. ACLS certification. Certifications appropriate for specific unit.
