The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking aMedical Director of Acute Care Psychiatry for Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Center.

The Medical Director of Acute Care Psychiatry provides clinical and administrative leadership for the department’s Inpatient Psychiatry Services. The responsibilities include administrative, clinical, and teaching/supervision. This physician leader partners with nursing, departmental leadership, and multidisciplinary clinical teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality acute care, focusing on evidence-based practices, measurable outcomes, and patient experience. The Medical Director collaborates with the Vice Chair of Clinical Services and MSBI Site Chair for clinical care and quality/safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

The Icahn School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry is a vibrant community of clinicians, researchers, educators, and trainees committed to discovering the causes of, and better treatments for, mental illness and substance use disorders. The Mount Sinai Behavioral Health service line encompasses the clinical behavioral health services including the Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside, Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai Queens, Mount Sinai South Nassau, and the Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Center.

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Supervises the Inpatient Unit Chiefs and unit attending physicians
• Develops and implements clinical practice guidelines and standardizes documentation and workflows for acute care services
• Manages acute care clinical operations
• Ensures adequate clinical coverage of the acute care services in collaboration with department leadership
• Attends behavioral health emergencies on the acute service to support the team.
• Assists in revenue cycle and productivity management for acute care services in collaboration with the clinical revenue cycle team and finance
• Leads training efforts related to the acute care services, including Grand Rounds or other departmental presentations in collaboration with the Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program
• Oversight and development of quality initiatives for acute care services in collaboration with the Director of Quality and Safety, Vice Chair, and Site Chair.
• Assists in investigative efforts, creation and implementation of corrective action plans, and consistently attends departmental incident review committee and QI meetings
• Provides departmental representation for hospital risk management and other committees
• Regulatory compliance oversight including continual accreditation readiness, and adherence to state, federal, and local regulations

Teaching and Supervision:

As an academic center with psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work, and other trainees, teaching and supervision is an important component of the position. The expectation is that the Medical Director of Acute Care Services provides and supports the supervision of clinical staff and the trainees.

Clinical Responsibilities:

The Medical Director participates in providing clinical oversight and supervision of the clinical staff. In addition, the medical director provides clinical care as needed to support the inpatient services. Other hospital-related duties as needed and assigned by the Department Chair

Qualifications

• Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrist

• Possess a NYS license to practice medicine

• Excellent clinical knowledge and communication skills

• Outstanding teaching skills

• Must possess highly collaborative and proactive approach, and demonstrate commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health care

• A strong work ethic and desire to participate in and grow a team-oriented, performance-driven department

Compensation range from255K to 400K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits)
