Advanced Rigger

Turner Industries is seeking an experienced Certified Advanced Rigger for maintenance work in the Old Ocean, TX area. Relocation and per diem not available for this position; candidates must be local to the area. 5-8's work schedule, must be able to work overtime and callouts as needed, schedule subject to change. NCCER Advanced Rigging and/or NCCCO Level I & II are highly preferred. General Job Description The Rigger assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material on maintenance and construction projects. This is a non-exempt role; the position reports to the Foreman and assigned duties are performed according to specific procedures and are frequently checked. Functional Requirements • Select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to load weight and size. • Attach pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms using bolts and clamps. • Attach load to crane hook with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains. • Give directions to equipment operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads. • Ensure safety of workers and material handlers using hand signals, loudspeaker, or telephone. • Set up, brace, and rig hoisting equipment. • Splice rope and wire to repair slings and tackles. • May direct workers during hoisting of machinery and equipment into ships, railroad cars or trucks. • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction. Qualification Standards High school diploma or equivalent. 1 to 4 years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level). Knowledge of all types of slings/chokers. Must ensure all rigging hardware and slings meet the company quarterly inspection criteria. Some job sites may require NCCER certification for this craft. Written pre-employment qualification test. Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation. Job site safety requirements such as clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc. Safety equipment as required by the client: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard. Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace. Physical Involvement May require climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; maintaining balance; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects; coordinating movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds; carrying objects, tools, equipment; standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching/squatting; seeing/hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; typing/data entry; step stool use; work in excessive heat or cold; work in loud environment. Mental Involvement Follow set procedures and standards; follow oral or written directions; knowledge of federal, state and company standards; ability to read and write; recognize and report safety hazards; interpret written plans and blueprints; apply basic math; plan work and select proper tools; compare and understand differences in sizes, shapes, forms; picture and evaluate solid objects from drawing or diagrams; communicate effectively; work in a team; learn new tasks; remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks; remain calm under pressure; manage time and expectations across multiple projects; ensure compliance with directions. Work Environment Factors Location: industrial maintenance and construction sites. Mobility barriers: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways; low or high elevations; confined areas. Climatic/environmental conditions: predominantly outdoor climate; exposure to extreme hot or cold, excess humidity, rain; varying noise levels from tools, machinery, equipment; potential exposure to chemicals.
